and if I have to replace it, is it possible to replace the crystal to sapphire from k1 mineral?

Only place I found and got it at is Nordstrom. It's only $60 and 42mm casing.

aiight so ive never owned a watch in my life but i think its about time to get my 1st. i went looking yesterday and saw a couple pieces i liked. i figured for my 1st watch i didnt want to ball out crazy so i set a price limit of 2500.

i tried on a calibre 5 tagH aquaracer and loved it. i like the style of the rolex submariner and this fit the bill. not that i need any approval but i know some of you know what youre talking about. so would i be wasting dough on this watch, should i splurge and go big? good 1st purchase? any opinions are appreciated.

Ok I think you have a few different options.

Firstly I wouldn't get the Tag 5 Aquaracer. It just uses a stock eta 2824 movement which you can get on a much cheaper watch, so you are basically paying for the brand.

What you could do is go for something much cheaper with submariner looks, especially as this is you first watch. It will give you good bang for buck and you can see how you like wearing a watch. A few I like are the

Steinhart Ocean 1 Black - About $460

You get a 2824 eta movement (same as tag), sapphire crystal etc.

Seiko SKX007 - $160 - 200

This is cheaper, although it has a good seiko in house movement and gives you a lot of bang for buck.

If you wanted something that is more in the top end of your budget and a well respected watch within the collectors community you could go for the Omega Speedmaster Professional (About $3000). This watch has a great history and NASA used it for their astronauts for the moon missions. The only downside is that it may be a little over budget and the watch is manual winding so you will have to remember to wind it ever so often. It is a great watch, and a keeper for any collection though.

Finally, you could just save and get a Rolex Submariner. It is a classic watch and will stand the test of time and holds value well. If that's what you really want why settle for something less. You could aways go pre owned to get the cost down a bit.

the tag calibre 5 aq is not a bad watch. Yes, it has a basic ETA movement....but the fit and finish is decent. That being said, i hate tag heuer. i would stay away from it. sooner or later, you will end up selling that tag for a rolex anyway. i think you are better off buying what you really want, a rolex submariner. stay away from "homages". buy a mint condition sub on the used market to save a grip of money. i can give you some references if you are interested.

A mint condition 16610 sub (late serial) is around $5800

A mint condition 116610 sub is around $6900

You can save additional money by buying a no-date sub. I have seen mint condition 14060 no-date subs go for <$4900.

Check out the brand Tudor. It is basically a Rolex (it's under their company). Basically a RSC employee told me Rolex puts the same quality into one except the movements aren't in house movements. It's reputation is in par with Rolex. They are cheaper too, priced around Omega.

And a lot of people will tell you get a Rolex, but you have to pick the one that grabs you. A watch will stick with you for a long time so don't get it for the mere fashion sense.

Stay away from jewelry shops in malls, and the chain shop (Hellers jewelers) they might know a little bit but my experience they are biased and don't have a passion. Basically they are there to make a profit and will try to seduce you to buy something, rather than helping you find the timepiece that suits you.

Rolex, Omega, Tudor, Jaeger-LeCoultre, Breitling, Patek Philippe
