I'd say in my area, (NJ & NYC) kids usually have good style, even tho most of us rock a combo of east/west coast brands.

Definitely true. I was born and raised in LA and I sometimes envy the east-coasters who get to wear thick coats and jackets during the winter. That is until I realize that southern california has the best weather in the world.

yeah man, it goes both ways....i sometimes wish to be in warmer climates when the weather gets nasty over here

Wow some people really need to get there backround on where street fashion or so called street wear came from... Neither west coast or east coast, not even the US started this shit! Street fashion came from japan! It hit the west coast first because it closer to japan then it hit the east coast... Unless u were on the east coast and were all about other fashions and culture! Yes, stussy, freshjive were one of the first "streetwear" brands but they were original just skate wear! But street fashion was evolve in Japan and most street wear companies in the US reference in Japan for what is up and coming!

I don't think one can gauge which coast has better style...

westcoast has great influence from asia (japan) as the eastcoast has great influence from europe (london/paris).

now it's all meshed together.

however, as far as personal style, i'd have to give it up to the east coast (i was born and raised in cali)...i remember when avirex jackets and timbs were the ISH when i was young and everybody was rockin NY hats no matter where you were from

As far as style , I think Ny wins cuz their shit is harder, gridier...

As far as how modern day "streetwear" exists, Stussy is godfather....not sure where you guys get your facts from but through Stussy, birthed Supreme. Stussy NY was opened by James Jebbia before Supreme NY ever opened. Through supreme and Stussy birthed, aNYthing, DQM, UXA all that east coast shit. All those guys have ties to Stussy Nyc where they got their first taste of the game. Japan caught on when the Stussy tribes moved over to Japan, therefore Jebbia NYC (Supreme), Hiroshi (Stussy Japan/Goodenough), Koppelmen/Fraser Cooke (footpatrol, hideout, bape london). Even Nigo from bape use to say he was obsessive over collecting stussy. Stussy is the reason why modern day streetwear exists.

^Very true on modern day street wear! But before Stussy actually became "streetwear, it was mainly for all the people who skated... Also supreme use to be just a regular local skate shop that was influenced by stussy in New York before they became what they are now... But Japan created the whole street fashion style which people were rockin stussy in the style... All of your brands caught on this influence and started to make what we call street wear!

How many people back in the day, if u are old enough to remember had the classic stussy shirt with the 8 ball on it and it said stussy on it?

Ironic we talk the roots of "streetwear"

A long read by internet standards but pretty interesting as it takes a different interpretation

Got nothing on The Bay and El-AYY.

As I grow older, I pay less attention to what men say. I just watch what they do.

very good explanation and references to ALL COASTS... streetwear today more than anything is an evolution of style, and to neglect any major scene that contributed is neglecting the style itsself

west coast wins cause they push ''streetwear'' brands hard. like they really try to identify themselves with it. eastcoast kids seem to be more about a street style and if ''streetwear'' falls in place then cool if not they still look dope. plus like someone said ive always thought of japan when it came to the word streetwear.

I thought that shit was homo 10-15 years ago and still don't fucks with stussy. Big ups to dude who referenced yaga in the ins/outs thread LOL. Homos straight rocking stussy/yaga/freshjive back in 94/95 listening to jam bands and wack techno.

I cosign what this dude and Diamond said. Streetwear OGs or not, I could never fuck with Stussy because of all the posers who ran it into the ground back in the day.

im from the west coast, and but ive been pretty much to both sides. I'm from the bay, been to LA over springbreak, and then NY during the end of summer. I'm sorry to say the eastcoast has this hands down. They are on a whole other level. It made me wonder how I would dress if I grew up in NYC. Because of the weather there too, the eastcoast also knows how to layer and knows about boots and mocassins too instead of just j's and nikes.

I don't think it should be divided between east and west.

But like madeinchina said, East coast has the 4 different weather climates, so we get to experience and dabble with everything.

if im on my prettyboy/hic shit, then i follow up & coming LA fashion (kings of glory, life & death etc) & assorted denim (sugarcane, brown label, flat head but as far as streetwear goes, NYC got it for definite, i really dont see most LA n*ggas as fashionable, only stylish ppl i see coming outta da west coast reside in the bay area & neighboring cities and even then the best ya can muster is some soho/williamsburg clones....NYC FTW BITCHES

You need to be more specific.

Are you talking about Eastcoast brands vs. Westcoast brands?

Or are you talking about personal style of people from East vs. West?

yea now im confused, may have to change answers, i took it like he meant overall style of dressin, but if he meant brands originating from either coast amme stay neutral
