Are stickers still an effective way for a brand to market itself? I feel like nowadays investing more time in social networks might be more effective than slapping stickers around town. Any feedback?

As someone who went to school for marketing my personal opinion is stickers are a great 'secondary' form of marketing. I definately would not put it in the top 5 things of my marketing strategy BUT I think if used correctly can be effective. I myself think stickers are a nice supplemental item to throw in with an order from a customer. The key thing about stickers is really to increase the brand awareness so adding something like stickers in with the purchase of a shirt could be an efficient marketing tool to help try and propel your brand further but definately wouldn't make it a main focus at least in terms of your marketing strategy.

Stickers can be very underestimated primarily being due to the fact that it is hard to see their effect take action and realize it. Where a lot of people go wrong is sticker bombing their local city and hoping to have that as a effective source of advertisement.

Where sticker's really become useful is for fan loyalty , opening up a package in the mail is almost like a ritual for some people tearing apart the packaging and taking each thing and examine every inch of it piece by piece. The more things you can add in your packaging to give to your customer the better your chances are to keep them as a loyal fan.

Converting 10 loyal fans out of 20 customers can be vital and worth more then showing 20,000 people your sticker on a urinal. Think of it this way on average each person has around 234 Facebook friends 10 loyal friends talking about your brand can amount to a recommendation to 2340 people.

Just some food for thought.

^Agreed. Getting stickers, pins, keychains, etc in a package increases my loyalty to a brand.

Stickers are a really useful tool, but be careful how you go about distributing them. Slapping them around town gives a decent awareness as people will naturally be inquisitive, but you must back it up. I've seen stickers been slapped around my city for months and months without finding out what it is. You can trail them on, you have to give them a little something here and there.. Maybe build up to some stencil spray's and try to get into some basic street wear sites to showcase your latest drops/lookbook or something.

That's a good starting point from a marketing perspective, well my 2 cents anyway.
