i dont like the fact that kids can walk into their local zumiez, pick up an obey snap and a diamond shirt and call it swag

it diminishes the integrity of what i believe streetwear is supposed to be.

Just picked up on this thread, interested to see what your view or definition of streetwear is?

heres a good article to read about his stolen work http://www.art-for-a-change.com/Obey/index.htm

supreme also is know to steal work too. but they dont obviously rip others work off and still have a good amount of original ideas

supreme don't steal work though, they always recreate if not collaborating with someone

that article up earlier on page 1 shows blatant rip offs

obey knocking off supreme years later

random yahoo answer fail completely off topic

how did u find that supreme pic

Personally I don't have anything against Obey, I bought a hoodie by them and it was one of the best fitting hoodies I've ever worn.

some obey is incredible shit but their buttonups fit extremely well and are high quality. Also their pants are among the most comfortable I've ever worn.

People buy certain brand names and styles so that they can be perceived in a certain manner by the public. After Obey became very easily available, lots of high school age kids started to wear it because it was like a cheaper version of Supreme. The results of these masses of high school kids buying Obey is that the brand became associated with these types of teenagers, because these people are most often seen wearing it. People who say the word "swag", post pictures on tumblr, and work at fast food restaurants. Therefore by purchasing the typical Obey box hoodie, you automatically get grouped in with the teenagers who have become associated to the brand. Then, you are perceived by the public as one of these typical teenagers. Most of the people on these forums want to be perceived as original, unique, and the opposite of the typical teenager, so they feel pre-disposed towards hating the brand. I feel like this is where the hate for the brand originates.

nice, articulated my feelings exactly.

Online Obey stuff, like from their site, I feel is okay. It doesn't have Obey plastered across it, and It is kind of nice. The Obey stuff in malls and all the stuff the million kids wear though is death.

Obey has some nice button-ups and pants but most of their tees and snaps are way overhyped

From an art standpoint, power to him, but as far as streetwear goes, I'm over it. I'm from the same city as Fairey and he's done a couple of random murals here over the past couple of years and those are dope, and I have a couple pieces of clothing, but if he had stayed in the realm of art and didn't branch into clothes, I feel like we'd all have much more respect for him and what obey is(or would have been).
