So I've been hearing a lot about this lately. Apparently AA is run by some corrupt folks and is in quite a bit of debt! We are starting to switch over to AA shirts on our site and it's a bit of a concern now. Anyone know anything about this? Most of the articles I've found were from about a year ago, but I've also found a few from 2011. I found this information to be a bit of a shock, I thought AA was killing it!

American Apparel factory is only 5 blocks from where i work. Here's the real deal. Lately, they were hit by sexual harassment lawsuit. They have a history of that for the most part. Most of it are coming from lower salary payed employees. I have seen the workers themselves, they look like they lack disciplines from what i am GUESSING. Also The factory are 3 tall buildings that takes me 3 blocks all around.
With the lawsuit they are in right now, they filed for bankruptcy to avoid the lawsuit because they knew there were not going to win. Aside that, they'll survive and business will still be normal. Corruption? yes and no. Discipline? major problem since the management absolutely lack leadership.
A lot are better.. if you're comparing the market of basics.
American Apparel doesn't even net close to a Billion dollar in sales

Zara at 17.8 billion
H&M at 17.4 billion
GAP 16 billion
Uniqlo 9 billion
and AA would be way down there at 500 mill

Is that only for their retail section? They also make money from blank t shirts, many companies buy them then screen print on them then put their label on it. A lot of their basics are sold to other companies to be made for something.

A single or even a series of lawsuits would not be enough to drive a $500mm company into bankruptcy. AA's problem is cashflow--they expanded way too fast.
