Anybody here know about shipping?
When selling online, how do you know how much to charge for shipping?
Does bigcartel automatically ask customers about shipping info
and then calculate it into their order?

in bigcartel, you can set your own shipping cost. usps priority mail offers a flat rate shipping throughout the US.

Nah do you, also what do you think of the hat?

Well how are you going to get the hat made then? A concept doesn't matter if you have no way of producing it because then it will only stay a concept.

I think the galaxy colorway is a little played out but if thats what you like then cool. My only thought it that the galaxy and a 5 panel don't work well together. I think the market that would want a galaxy colorway (sneakerheads) won't wear a 5 panel and the people who are the 5 panel market (skaters and such) won't wear a galaxy colorway. I think that kind of a colorway would be better on a snapback or fitted.

Just trying to get feedback on the hat once i find a solid design that everyone likes, I'll go looking for a manufacturer.

anyone know where supreme gets their hats manufactured? im looking for 5 panel manufacturers but they arent good quality. supreme camps and snapbacks is the standard i have set for quality.

Its not too hard to find a company who will manufacture hats to specs, the hardest part is finding one who doesn't have a minimum over 1000. I have not been successful with that yet.

I know 3 different places that manufacture headwear that have low minimums. If you wanna know them get at me,
would trade for manufacturers of pretty much any type of menswear. Got most of my suppliers, but no harm in checking others out.

Well I asked because I would assume that someone would have researched a manufacturer if they were coming up with a concept. I guess I was wrong. If you want a hat manufacturer, PM frinner, he just hooked me up with some.

Get at me if you have manufacturers to trade, I spent hours tryna find manufacturers and I ain't just gonna hand them out. On the other hand here is a hint, if you can't find one just from HB then you ain't trying hard enough.

Very true. Using the search feature on HB isn't research

Using the word everyone likes was in bad context. More like something that will appeal to most people when they see it or catch there attention.

I'll happily help people, but not if they aren't gonna help me. I'm not gonna hand out sources that I have spent hours trying to find.

Chill with this. I haven't seen you hand out any hat manufacturer as of lately.
Theres no reason to hand something out when one has done their hard work which is why trades for sources occur.
You can't get anywhere is the clothing industry when you don't do your own work.

ive worked with Elm Company..they have a private label subsection called Reach. they've done alot of work with startups over the past few years making fitted and snapbacks with tons of customization...and fairly low quantities. Decent prices.

all good fellas...no hate.

and chad....you can get very far in this biz with some help and info. whether you grind for it, or get it from in a forum with like minded people wiling to help.

but like i said...all good...no beef.

here is a really good post from t-shirt forum that i thought might help here:

i get the idea that a lot of folk want to get into making t-shirts for, almost literally, a couple of bucks because they have what they think is a hep, fresh design (and who says ‘hep’ anymore besides meconfused. that’s great, but most of us realize pretty quickly that this isn’t a get-rich-quick scheme by any means; you want a business and you want to do it right, or at least less wrong, and you want to be it for the long haul.

so, in that vein, here is a list of questions you should perhaps answer that is by no means comprehensive, but it’s a good starting point:

1) what’s my budget?

2) what are my skill sets? do i need to improve them or learn new skills? do i know people that can help?

3) what kind of licenses do i need and where do i get them?

4) am i going to operate out of my garage or have a store? (having a home based business doesn’t mean you don’t need licensing on top of adhering to your local ordinances regarding working out of home.)

5) what kind of printing method/s will i use?

6) where do i find equipment and supplies?

7) what kind of business will it be? do i just want to make my own brand, or will i take on outside business?

cool can i outsource production to start up?

9) how will i do market research and advertise?

10) how will i set my business up? LLC? partnership? sole proprietor? other?

11) what kind of manufacturers will i use? who do i plan on using to supply me my shirts?

12) what kind of web site should i have? how much will i spend on it?

13) how will i ship (simple poly bag, no decoration, or some fancy bag/container)? what service should i use?

14) how will customers pay me?

15) should i have a business bank account?

16) how am i going to do my accounting?

17) what sales and business goals should i aim for?

1cool how much money should i give ryan because he’s a super-awesome in a special kind of way guy?

19) should i have a contract and where do i have one made?

you’ll see that responding to one of these questions opens up a whole slew of others under the same topic, but i think that’s a good starting point, no?

check out the full thread and responses:
