Trying to Start up a Clothing line here in NYC. Gotta couple of good artists and a great central idea. Any helpful tips ? ..........And i also was thinking about doing SnapBacks. How do i create Custom Hats or do i just try to make them myself. Any Help ?
Asking for advice from a forum of amateurs who think they know what they're doing is your first misstep. Heres something though, there are no rules to clothing, no guide book or how-to. The only way you are going to get anywhere is to make something and make people see it, not by telling a bunch of teenagers that that you have a great idea.
and you sir hit the nail on the head

This is a random something from a fellow f*ck up...think about what it is that you're trying to convey and make something people want to wear. Stock art and hot garbage doesn't pair well with a great brand message ...and a subpar brand message also doesn't go well with well designed work that no one understands. I find myself having been or being in all your guys shoes ALL THE TIME and I'm struggling ALL THE TIME.

Something that really might speak to a few of you guys is you have to listen to what people tell you. It's not always going to be right, and it might be some of the dumbest stuff you'll ever hear, but listen....the less people and resources you have, the more you will have to interpret wtf people are saying if you'd like to "stay alive".

There are times where I had to realize, not everyone wears purple and black shirts work better for this guy...or that even though a model doesn't do ANYTHING for me, it might set something off for that one person over in the MidWest or wherever else...really listen to the info people give you, especially if they have a certain taste or sensibilty that says 'hey, I used my brain to think of this, and it might help you'....apply that as soon as possible, ESPECIALLY if they support your brand or are genuinely planning to.

I read like 9-10 peoples abouts over the last few days and they sounded like 'Hungry Human' to me, but without any actual thought behind them...and it made me realize how bad I'm slacking that no one on here said , "yo,bruh, that sounds like HH"...so...I am going to sit here and think about what I need to do to convey my brand message more and the like...you have to be critical and actually want more than mediocre...and despite this maybe being new, you guys have an idea of what you want....or you should if you're on here...so explore that. Think about what really speaks to you, whether a song,image,sentence...whatever....I'm not going to get much deeper into the process, but make it look like there is some effort involved.

When I look at the majority of this stuff...all I think is that you guys got really hyped and picked up a thesarus then started using big words to describe broad ideas and sound cool with hopes of getting to Pink Dolphin territory (i.e. we're getting money and touting a lifestyle so hard no one cares about anything we're about , just buying the gear)...that's not really sustainable.

If you want to make clothes to make money...you can make Brony shirts or sell cruddy sublimination shirts for a reasonable price and make some quick dough...it's a lot easier than ripping off OF,Diamond....or whatever the eff else and calling it a parody then getting ripped up by the kids on here as they point out your insultingly bad work.

Sometimes even then, the stuff may not sell and you may wonder why...but in between, you might have to hustle...I don't mean half off this , post that...I mean...I've sold stuff in Detroit ghettos to get home and worse...it's a lot of work at times. So , really think about how committed you are to this or if you just want to be guy # 089089809890890890 with a cruddy clothing brand for 6 months. That might be more important for some to think about than "designs"...It matters.

I'm reading this and it sounds like I think I'm the man or something...please don't read it as such..but you have to really put in work to see results the majority of the time. It's not just diamonds, dolphins, dream chasin',dolla dolla ,supreme parody whatever else....get to work and maybe I can help some of you if I see something...do the same for me too though eh? I'm not perfect and I'm hoping to take this much further! Hope that spoke to someone! -h_h-
Just curious, are you the owner of Hungry Human Clothing? If so, you're probably struggling because your designs are weak. Again, not trying to be mean, just my honest opinion. The one cool shirt I thought y'all had was the Power Rangers so that's something. I do agree with you though, you can't just throw some crap on a shirt and try to sell it and expect to make it big. I've been going through design after design for the past three months and I've finally narrowed it down to 5 that I am very happy with. It's tough and it takes time. You have to be willing to put in the work and understand that designing clothes and running a clothing company is not for everyone. I know this may sound ridiculous coming from the guy who has yet to put anything out, but I feel fairly confident that when I do release my first line, all will go well. If we're being honest, the whole "streetwear" scene is extremely over saturated and is filled with a bunch of the same stuff (cam, drug references, half naked women, some tribal crap, etc.). If you really want to start a clothing brand, please take your time, do your research, make sure you're not contributing to the huge pile of crap that is already out there, and BE ORIGINAL. Hope I'm not coming off as some know it all douche on this thread, but I wouldn't blame people for thinking so haha I just try to keep it honest and speak my mind.
All you did was say the majority of what I said in different words while not giving any constructive criticism."Your designs are weak, I've been around three months and haven't released anything , but I'm sure I'm going to do well..."...best of luck with that one dude...To the other people that understood where I was coming from, get at me and I might be able to help out! Be well everybody! -h_h-
Yeah, that's why I said, "I do agree with you" haha and way to quote me out of context. I don't know what else you want me to say, your designs are weak because they look like a bunch of amateurish drawings. I also said that your Power Rangers shirt is cool, but that's about the only one I thought was cool. Also, your descriptions for your shirts are kind of ridiculous. It may just be me, but I don't understand any of them. I really wasn't and am not trying to be mean, but just giving my honest opinion and feedback which is what this thread is about. If you want to get butt hurt about it that's up to you.

I don't get why people always post stuff like this when someone asks for help. The whole point of this thread is for people wanting to start a New Brand to ask questions and get feedback. It's just not cool and it makes you look like a douche when you shoot someone down when they ask for help. @2damndope I would suggest doing a lot of research. You're going to have to find out what kind of shirts you want to use, find a screen printer, a label maker, create social media accounts for your brand and come up with a solid marketing strategy. As far as snapbacks go, I have no idea about that, but I suggest you really make sure you have some good designs for your snapbacks because that is one of the most overly saturated parts of the industry right now. Hope this helps and best of luck!

People take their clothing lines way too serious...
You've been on here for a month... at lease explain how you came to that conclusion
Because people go way into detail with their brand. They write about how they're going to change the world or do some inspirational shit. Feels like the market is saturated with these type of brands there's no need to keep adding to the pile. Keep it plain and simple. You're not going to change the world or better yet inspire someone through a piece of clothing... RELAX

word, i agree with this . . . every brand nowadays is that same anti-establishment corny shit

think of it like this . . . would someone from supreme or bape or original fake say that corny ass shit

I gave him the most valuable piece of advice anyone on this forum could give; do whatever you want, there is always another person out there that will like what you like. As for your 'advice', I would hope anyone who made it to this thread would already realize that you need a screen printer to make shirts and that you can't be everywhere at once so the internet helps with that.

On another note, social media can be a curse in disguise, don't sell yourself short by signing up for every social media site yielded in your google search.

camouflage, cocaine, rap lyrics, logo flips, religious symbols, renaissance era paintings, cartoon characters, guns, and animal prints are 95% of what the streetwear game consists of. honestly, the whole game has reached endgame in my opinion.

The reason is because people expect to come to these forums & ask a question  & automatically get all the info they need without researching it. So many people have asked that question and it takes all but a few minutes to search this thread or read the entire thing so you know what to do and what no to do. As for advice for @2damndope? DO NOT rely soley on people's feedback from these forums, do what YOU feel is right and never try to force a brand image you don't live yourself. Study other brands that have come into this forum and see what has and hasn't worked for them.

If you're completely satisfied with a name you won't question it, so keep thinking until you hit something you're 100% satisfied with.
