Okay guys. First time posting here in this thread so take it easy.

I'm just a HS senior with no money really so I have to go through Spreadshirt for my brand. But everything I put out goes through a quality check with me before it's released. Just have to get that out of the way first. I plan to expand this brand in the next year. Building up the name now and getting it out there.

So my brand is DieboltClothing(My last name is Diebolt). I'm based in Charlotte, NC....the Queen City. Crown Town.

My logo is the crown. It comes from the logo I use for my graphic design company DieboltDesigns. I used the 'd' to make a crown. It wasn't originally going to be used for 'DieboltClothing' but the crown received ALOT of positive around feedback from everyone around me so I stuck with it and really built a brand off it.

Anyways, I do alot of promotion via the internet.

Check out the DieboltClothing tumblr: http://dbltclothing.tumblr.com/
DieboltClothing on twitter: @dieboltclothing
I'm also working on another main site. That will be coming soon.

Promo Pics....just a way to get the crown logo out there. Not really anything special....just using some famous people to stir up some interest on places like Tumblr. (Posting links so the post doesnt load slow for viewers)

And I just put out a few quick previews of some designs I have for Part 1 of DieboltClothing 2012. This stuff will be available super soon!

Again those are just simple quick previews. Pictures of the real stuff is coming soon and everything should be available very very soon.

Just give me some feedback guys...I realize I have alot to learn but I think I have a solid idea and I know I already have alot of support. I'm just looking to learn and grow and I appreciate every bit of support and comment I get. Thanx!

yo, i didn't take time to read that entire message, but why would you print those? why would you even consider using them as a design. think about it. is it original? is it good? does it describe your brand?

there no good.

most people that post here are designers and want to also start a brand...unfortunately most graphic designers will critique based on what they think looks good compared to they're own style or talent.

ive seen designs that i think were poorly done by all kinds of brands...well known, established, up and coming....but im not the consumer. despite my thoughts on the graphic content or execution...the designer likes them, the customer likes them, and they do well.

Good luck, keep designing.

here is a simple font design from an emerging brand called Adapt......if they posted it on this sight, people would say its a simple default font, lacks creativity, nothing special, don't waste your time printing it.

I also am not a big fan of this tee....but the designer seemed to like it, they printed it, and the brand does well with designs very similar to this.....you never know.

Thanks for the response. Appreciate it.

I realize my designs right now are nothing mind blowing, but you have to remember I'm just getting into this and I'm putting out the stuff that I KNOW will sell. I don't know what it is about the crown but everyone seems to really like it. Shirts and hoodies in person look great with that logo across the chest.

As I said, Im just building off the crown. I'm in Charlotte, NC which is also know as the 'Queen City' so the whole royal-crown theme goes pretty well around here.

Also...I consider myself a pretty good graphic designer considering I am completely self taught. I also have alot of experience and really I have a decent little fanbase of people who check out my content, etc often. I too see some stuff in this thread that isn't great graphically but sells well.

We all have our different markets...you're designs don't have to be GREAT, but you have to be consistent with them when trying to reach the people that will buy you're product. Right now I'm just working on putting out some stuff that people would enjoy wearing.

I don't like it at all. Everything is so generic. I can even recognize your logo font as one of the ones you find in microsoft word. If the brand is named after you (which I personally don't like) then you should make stuff that you really like not that "you know will sell". By only making product that you know will sell, you are not bringing anything new to the table, you are not taking any risks and are essentially making a copy of another brand that "sells".
I honestly see nothing other than a few tees selling but whatever. Do what you do and we will all see peoples response.

we all know that most people on hypebeast all like the same 10 brands...we also know that they only make up a small portion of the consumer that buys independent brand tees.

the key is to make stuff that you like......AND that you believe will sell.

That is the difference between doing this as a hobby and making a few tees for your friends, and starting a clothing brand with intentions of selling to stores and getting retailers.

Just because some of my "favorite" brands use fonts that are easy to recognize doesn't mean it should be done. Benny Gold is one of the best brands out right now whether you like them or not because all of their graphics are hand drawn. Supreme may be one of the best brands in streetwear and they use TONS of generic fonts, just because they are an OG and they do it doesn't mean its good design.
What I feel like you are saying is that a lot of popular and "successful" brands use generic fonts so then it must be okay. There is certainly nothing wrong with it, it just show a lower level of workmanship than say a Benny Gold of streetwear.

The font style doesn't matter. It how you use it. I've seen alot of people on here use fonts that just totally don't work with what they are trying to accomplish.

Also, give me some time. I realize that my designs are nothing mind blowing at the moment....but believe me, I have stuff in store. I have to start somewhere. Right now it's about getting my logo out there. Whether you like it or not(dont mean to be rude by that), there are alot of people that do like it. As I said, Im only in High School right now(senior). I have tons of time to make this into a true brand and I definitely know what I have to do to get people like you to buy into it. For now tho, I will continue doing what I know works. It would be foolish of me to not release some new stuff featuring the logo and some simpler designs when I have people ask everyday when the new stuff will come out.

When I transition to getting shirts printed and when I start selling them myself(not off Spreadshirt), that's when I will really buckle down and be sure my stuff is completely unlike any other brand. Right now, to start off, it simply is not the time.

Just put a little bit of faith in me and I promise I will eventually turn you into a believer of my brand.

*One last thing- I decided to keep the brand in my name because I'm not one for names that are all flash. Some names may sound cooler, but a last name is really timeless. I won't grow out of my last name.

aww man...i love Benny Gold too....love all his graphics and his entire process....

in regards to popular and successful brands using generic fonts...yes..it is OK to use generic fonts! absolutely nothing wrong with it at all. If it works in your design...then it works! simple as that. Why are you guys trying to over complicate things?

hand drawn letters, logo making and the overall graphic composition skills of Benny Gold is what makes him unique.

You can name your top 12 favorite brands and maybe 2 of them may be on his level of craftsmanship.

@ Diebolt.......Listen Kid, stop apologizing and vowing to prove yourself worthy on this forum. keep working, become a student of graphic design. ( and i don't mean in school) check out magazine ads, book covers, concert posters, packaging on products, pop and commercial artists and yes.....other brands in the market. You can get a good idea about what works graphically.

you don't want to copy the content or even the style, but you can get a good idea of the components that make a design work.......- size, placement, line weight, balance, font size...ect.

Ok. I will patiently wait and see the progress. I honestly don't think everything is too bad, I am just not a fan of such a generic font for your logo but keep in mind that IS just MY opinion.

I won't grow out of my last name.

these 2 tees both work for different reasons.....one uses hand drawn font..one is generic. Just make good designs people.

This is also a great example of why I love Benny Gold and hate Undefeated. Undefeated has had their run but now everything is so oversimplified and uncreative. Just my take.

I can vouch for this though. Studying those who are successful and taking inspiration from the oddest places are some of the things that are curtail fro great brands.

some honest feedback on that is, go into illustrator right now and erase it.
sorry to be blunt but you may want to take more time and put more thought into making a logo.

Not necessarily the execution that is bad its just a bad concept. Equals sign? come on man. Not saying everything has to be a box logo but I swear you can be a little more creative and if you can't you should quit now. Try actually drawing something first before you go to the computer.

what is that supposed to represent? does it describe you brand? what is it?
to me, all it is is a black and yellow circle. 0 in originality and the concept sucks.

It totally depends on the subject matter.. BUT in my opinion.. a logo is always works best if you can recognise it at a small scale, regular and large scale.. if it does;t it does;t communicate very well BUT with saying this.. not ALL logos need to be 50x50 pixels and not all need to be large.. it depends on what it's purpose is..

It should also be memorable, not necessarily the most original idea but still, memorable.

REIS means voyage or holiday but it could also mean rays/raise so that's why I like the idea of a circle because its like a sun (rays). But I also want to include the idea of a holiday/voyage.
