@chadacadabra
Thx, I knew the quote is polarizing, but you can think of anything else. I used Inkody (visit lumi.co for info) so its quite long-living
Thank you. Will you be selling the shirts, whats your brand?

Yeah, of course, but I havent started yet and I'm not sure if can offer international shipping from the start as Germany is famous for its bureaucracy.

My brand is called Fosca. fosca.co.uk & Facebook
You won't find anything there now, but check it in a few weeks. Its gonna be dope.

Would love to know:

Anyone have any real experience with retailers? Whether it be through consignment or actually having them buy your pieces.
For consignment, how much did they say they want?
For retail, how many did they on average buy from you?

Im talking to a few stores and both of those options are on the table.

Thanks.

when a store buys your stuff up front , its usually at the wholesale price that you set.most brands like to keep the wholesale price consistent to the market ( which is about $14-15). The store then sells your stuff for retail....which is usually double what they paid for it. ($28-30)

in regards to minimums, you never want to set minimums for stores that are willing to buy upfront!...whether they only want 20 tees (just to try out the brand) or 150 tees....if the store is paying up front (paypal, COD).... make the sale!

Consignment is ok....if you have inventory, its nothing wrong with having in a few shops for consignment. But i like to control the inventory....( i dont set limits upfront, but if a store places an order that i don't like, i negotiate) You don't want alot of inventory tied up in consignment, when you can be moving it in other places. the money split is usually 50-50 of the retail price.

Alot of stores like to do "Term payments"...this is a pain in the ass. its referred to as Net-30, or Net-60..or whatever.
this means that you ship the order, and the store pays you in 30, or 60 days...or whatever terms you agree to. You will find yourself chasing down a store for a payment wayyyyyy after the term is up.

you have to find the right balance of accounts...you need some that will pay up front so you can keep things moving, but you dont want to turn down a really good account just because they want to do consignment or net 30.

managing the accounts is whole other side of this biz that should not be overlooked! Keep in constant contact, be upfront about payment request, but don't be a jerk. (with some stores, you will get used to being paid late....but they always pay...and always keep ordering,so you gotta deal wit it.)

Thanks. I appreciate that in depth answer man.

thankful for any thoughts on this

I like it. Very good. Also thought about the Lumi printing option. Can you shed any light on the feel of the print, and difficulty of process?

Thank you.
You nearly won't recognize the print, the cotton is still soft and smooth.

The process is kind of easy but you still have to work very precisely and spend some time experimenting with it. Especially if you interested in making a larger amount of tees, a mechanical process is much more profitable. I really have to figure out a system as I don't want to put Givenchy price tags on them.

I can recommend Lumi for experimenting or small editions. But if I am successful selling them I will switch to a proper mechanical process as it saves a lot of time.

thanks man.

i never asked them. some just offered up the feedback. i'm assuming they had time to wear em a couple times including washes. the tees said Pre-shrunk..

Personally prefer Alstyle, they don't shrink and stay true to size plus have a great collar. American Apparel probably has the tightest fitting collar, but only prefer those as undershirts if anything.

@hkeys I've used the alstyle 1301 which has a great collar but gets that chalky feel after washing, and then I've used the 1701 which is great after wash but the collar gets weak and loose.

I don't mind sharing if you have a contact to trade. Serious inquiries only. Email me at justinsinkorswim@live.ca

Alstyle and Port and Company. With Alstyle 1301 beibg the top pick. The collar alone is a game winner over all.
Pro Club is very good to but it's more of a urban style thick T. The collar on those does not budge at all it it still stays pretty soft after washes. But of course more expensive then the others.
I have tired 2 Hanes style T. One was a 50/50 blend which was light weight, nice collar before and after wash. It actually had a pretty good feel to it. Almost comparable to American Apperal because it was a fashion fit but cheaper.
When I find the style number when I get home I'll post it

I wish i could say they were custom made, but unfortunately they're not...not yet. Cut and sew to this extent would cost a good amount of cash and I'm not there yet.
But I can tell you that the jackets are vintage army jackets.

The shirt is an all over print, the jacket is already produced through another company.

NOTE: these are not the final products...just the starting out points. I'm adding my own customization to it and everything.
