One way a bunch of you guys always go wrong is by starting a brand with no passion. Successful brands are only run on passion, NOT MONEY. It's obvious who has passion and who doesn't.
Passion: people post their brand up here, they listen to the criticism, the love, and no matter what anybody says, they are not willing to quit or change anything.
No Passion: those who come on here asking: where do you get you stuff printed?, any good designers?, anybody know any good 5 panel hat manufacturers? where do you get you woven tags made? etc.

People trying to start a brand can't just some on here and ask how we got it done. WE put in the hard research and the hours to get what we needed done, to produce progression. When you come on here, you are basically cheating and not many people want to help someone make money without putting in their own work.

DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH, DONT RELY ON OTHERS TO DO WHAT YOU NEED DONE FOR YOU. WORK FOR YOURSELF.

Oh.

Not that I necessarily have any actual experience, but it doesn't take a genius to realize that simply getting into screen-printed tee shirt designs is not gonna get you too far too fast. Launch with your guns blazing, even if it means waiting a while until you have the capital to hire real designers and buy real cut and sew shit. Don't half-ass it. Good luck to y'all.

I started a brand called "Gold Imperium." I'm a freshman at Pitt.
These are our prototype logos so let me know what you think:

Honestly man, they're pretty bad. If your actually serious about starting a brand and spending the dough to do it, hire an artist. Get a real logo that will represent your brand. Don't use those.

Kid gold, don't listen to this animal... I like the first and last logo. They don't look bad at all.
I'm launching my brand next month. I'll post my logo and shirts in a few days.
Good Luck.
Thanks man for the support, I have an artist who's a family friend, who's really good & I showed him these, so he's going to run with this idea and really put a professionals touch on it but I'll for sure be on the look out for your shit. what's the name of it?

An animal? Haha do what you want, no one is actually going to buy your shit. The logo looks like it was done in ms paint.
When your working in the apparel industry you have to be open to constructive critisizm. You can just disregard it and only take the positive.

Super immature of you to call me an animal, when obviously the logos were very poorly done. Anyways, it's all up to you. If you do go with those, you're going to lose money. I warned you.

Any feed back is good feed back, no need to call some one out for giving the guy some good advise.

The logos are not that good, i imagine if you throw those in illustrator/Photoshop you could cook something up!

Dont sleep on the idea man, it could be sick!
Thanks man. Of coarse I know my logo needs a lot of work, I'm no professional designer or have much experience developing a brand. I just wanted to get some feed back on the basic concept of the Gold Imperium name and the direction/concept of the line. I have a pretty good artist, I know I've got to invest some major funds into this kind of endeavor, but this is something I'm passionate about. But I do appreciate all the feedback and will definitely haver to work on my stuff before I officially launch my world take hove. haha.

Our packaging for multi shirt orders as well as hoodys. We really want to leave a lasting impression with our brand and hopefully these boxes are something people will hold onto for an extended period of time. We also plan to print on the sides as well. Any feedback is appreciated.

some logos i made. what do you guys think?

Not feeling it man - if you're gonna go for some kinda of playing card or casino look, they have such a rich visual side to them. I'd either look to get the playing card feel or the neon flashy shit that is old vegas. This doesn't work, looks like MS Paint stuff. The idea behind it could be promising but this needs work, maybe talk to someone who can design stuff and get someone else to do it.

Couldn't agree more. The stuff looks very amateurish...

Packaging is on point. Props to you on that. Good packaging is becoming a lost art in streetwear and I think this will do for you what you want.

thank you! after a long year of up's and down's (i owned 2 different stores, 1 in MA and one in AZ, neither of which worked out like they were supposed to) we're starting to find our own as a brand and develop a unique look and feel. the original east coast store was located right on the ocean so i've been trying to reflect that in the designs. the flags are becoming an essential part of the branding and the cool part is that they represent the letter 6 and 3...a play on our original address: 63 wharf street. the text at the bottom of that design reads "rule #7: if you get knocked down, get back up" ...the rest of the "10 commandments" as i've been calling them will be released throughout the year on different products and represent 10 lessons to live by that i've learned throughout the experience. appreciate the feedback! this brand is a lifeline for me...i used to work as a designer cooped up in a cubicle and couldn't stand that shit anymore. with my first attempt at operating stores not working out, i'm just going one step at a time to get back there!

Yeah how'd you print these? Do you have your own silkscreen machine? I wanted to ship some shirts out in pizza boxes with our own print on the top, but getting them printed was a nightmare and I kept walking into dead-ends with printers now being able to do em

Thanks for all the positive feedback guys, its much appreciated. And yea we actually have our own shop that we print out of in the bay area, we do everything ourself and don't outsource anything. And we used a solvent based ink for the boxes that air drys in about 20-30 minutes.

it isnt anything original. i'm sure with professional help you can make that look pretty good, but does it say anything about your brand?

When it comes to logos, the simpler the better. Alot of brands use that shape but if you make it your own there shouldnt be a problem with it.

Yea too much going on. Leave the tiger/beanie design and ditch the logo (on this design at least)

I like the logo but think it should be incorporated differently in this sweatshirt. Maybe try smaller or somewhere else or even just the same color as the tiger. Overall though I like the hoodie.

Question: Ive done research and I still cant figure this out.

When making a shirt with a celebrity or a published picture on it do you need to get certain rights in order to use the pic??
