^^ u guys are crazy.
my 9600gt ($120) rapes in crysis and css. i get aruond 200-300 fps in css on normal servers, and in servers with no lag i get around 400-500.

Crysis and CS:S are the two ends of the video game spectrum in terms of graphics.

It's easy to pull off 200-500 fps in CS:S. I'd like to see you do the same in Crysis.

With a 9600 GT, I'm going to guess that you'd pull off about 60 fps in Crysis with high settings. Huge difference than with CS:S, and certainly not rape, considering that I've seen people with triple SLI 8800 Ultras pull off well over 150 fps in Crysis. Now THAT's "rape."

I love how you guys are all quad-core huzzah!, but you can get dual core setup that will shit on a quad core (Penryn core, not Nehalem). By the time programs actually start utilizing 4 cores, the Penryn quads are gonna be very lackluster. Please, atleast do some distributed computing with those unused cores.

I used to game alot on my computers, now just used for school work, music, and movie watching, so my machines aren't OMG! BLAZING, but that's fine with me.

Comp 1:

AMD 4850e
Gigabyte 780G board w/ ATi HD3200
G. Skill 2 x 2GB DDR2-800 RAM
Western Digital Caviar Black WD640AAKS 640GB harddrive.
Uses less power then a 100watt light bulb.

Comp 2.

Intel P4 3.2C
Asus P4P800-VM
1.5GB Mushkin DDR-400
200GB Western Digital
Nvidia FX5200

Laptop 1:

Dell Inspiron 6400
Intel Core Duo Merom 1.66GHz
2GB DDR2-533 Corsair RAM
250GB 5400.4 Seagate Momentus harddrive

Laptop 2:

Dell Inspiron 1525
Intel Core 2 Duo 2.0 GHz
4GB DDR2-533 RAM
250GB 2500BEVT Western Digital Scorpio harddrive

So yeah, nothing screaming fast, but well above the needs they face.

Quick question-I have a 7900GT right now but the fan is starting to wear out and it's failing so I need to upgrade. Would I see any boost at all from an 8600GT? What's the best card i could get for under $100?

i agree with dude. i've built mine from scratch earlier this year. and its cost me about $6000. and its worth cuz the video, and graphics cards i added are def shitting on the ps3 and xbox graphics.

$6000???

that is silly money, state your specs tbh.

If i got every single high end component i would struggle to reach half of that.
