What IM program you guys use?

I still have AIM from way back in 2005. I heard the new versions suck.

Any IM programs that allow you to send/receive files like AIM?

You know not what you speak of. Avast! Free Edition and AVG Home are free and meet or surpass paid versions of other anti-virus software. I personally use Avast! free edition on all of the computers I work on. It is nice and light and can be made to extremely unobtrusive, which is excellent.

I'm sure all new versions of AIM and Windows Messenger Live support file swap.

My computer has been slow as hellll lately.
I tried malwarebytes or whatever and that helped for a while
but now its slow again.
I tried some of the other reccomended programs as well, no luck.
Also I've had CA Security Center that my Dad installed since I've had the computer
but I dont think thats doing anything either.
I've defragged all the time.
deleted unnecessary programs too.

any suggestions?

^ Get rid of CA Security Center.

Download Microsoft Security Essentials. Scan for viruses.

Download CCleaner. Run it. Check for registry errors.

Downloaded avira, and super anti spyware, and Im running malwarebytes scans again
and its actually picking shit up now.

I now have another problem that just started about a day ago
There are random clicking noises and ads or music that are randomly playing
for about 5-10 seconds in the background.
Shit was trippin me out at first.
has this happen to anyone before?

Im running scans all day trying to fix this shit.

^ Get rid of Avira.

Download Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE). Run a scan.

Run multiple scans with Malwarebytes and SuperAntiSpyware. Then run CCleaner and defrag your hard drive.

I got Microsoft Security Essentials as well and am running a scan.

After a few scans with all the programs
My computer is running a lot faster.
although there are still a few issues at hand

-The trippy random clicking sounds and ads/music playing in the background
-My volume is turned off at startup after reboot the cpu
and randomly turns off, I have to go to advanced sound settings to fix it each time

^ First, there's a problem just by having Avira and MSE running together. Get rid of Avira.

Run a scan with MSE again. 2 antivirus programs = can cause problems

And for the other problems:

http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/707709

You can literally Google all your problems. Type in 'random clicking noise' + your computer model/brand/etc. Do this for the rest of your problems. You'll find a solution.

What everyone else said.

1. Backup
2. Reformat
3. Upgrade to Win7 if possible (I've noticed Windows XP receiving more viruses as time goes on)
4. Install MSE (Microsoft Security Essentials
5. Don't use Internet Explorer. Use Google Chrome or Firefox.
6. Defrag and run Ccleaner, Malwarebytes and Super AntiSpyware every week or so.
7. Don't open any emails from nigerian princes asking you to wire money, and keep the pr0n watching to a minimum.

Can questions be asked in here?

Whatever I'll go anyways. So, my computer is full of memory in my C drive. Having no clue why, searching and searching, I don't see a reason for it to be so filled up. Then I stumble upon this super duper hidden file, COMPLETE in the C drive. So I get in... and find about 12 GB of weird Zip Files and about 55,000 files. Highlighting and deleting only gets me so far. So when I try to select all, then press delete, the folder freezes up.

How the hell can I get rid of all this shit?

A great way to delete files that are hard to delete is to use a program named Unlocker 1.9.0. Google it and you will find it.

Also look for a program named WinDirStat. It will scan your hard drive and give you a nice visual view of what is taking up space.

reformat your hardrive for a quick fix
