With Sony having a press conference Feb. 20 and teasing us to "See the future" I definitely think they'll reveal
something. Discuss.

cant wait. perfect price point is $350 but max i'll pay is $400.
February 08, 2013 @ 17:49:31
I'd pay for 400 if it has a 256GB or larger SSD.

It's actually rumored be around $400. There going less than what the PS3 was at launch.

Getting one launch day...
February 09, 2013 @ 01:17:12
definitely not going to be 700, sony released after xbox and at a higher price and caused them to lose a lot of money, theyre not going to make that mistake again.
February 09, 2013 @ 01:27:24
It should be cheaper if they're going software only, so $700 is crazy. No physical media means less moving parts. Multi-card reader, USB, Ethernet and HDMI are cheaper than a slot-load disc tray and laser. I wouldn't be surprised if there was NFC/wireless charging for the controllers smokeyface. If they sell at $400 with a 3-month subscription to PSN+, they make take a loss, but they're moving A LOT of units, which means A LOT of potential game sales.

it's going to have a disc drive and they wont sell at a loss. Sony isnt in a position to do things like that right now.
February 09, 2013 @ 01:40:48
hope it comes with a grill like the ps3 at launch, miss cooking my steak while I played.

.wa do dem.

February 09, 2013 @ 01:44:19
Having a disc drive is stupid.

I highly doubt physical media is going anywhere at least for a very long time. And wireless charging for controllers would be awesome in my opinion.

and how do you plan on getting your games? lol USA internet is not very good and we have data caps on 90% of our service providers.
February 09, 2013 @ 16:18:48
Supposedly you can record about 15 min of gameplay...

......

February 09, 2013 @ 18:31:44
Games are 25GB max(most are less), that's only a few hours on a ~20Mb/s connection, a bit longer if you do it while streaming.

They won't be getting rid of the disc drive because the used game market would tank and people would be upset about not being able to play games from previous gens. People still bitch about not being able to play PS2 games...
February 09, 2013 @ 19:33:37
^^ They want the used game market to tank

It's easier to make a backward compatible system if it is software only. I have PSOne and PS2 classics on my PS3, they take up minimal space.

smfh @ this prolly being delayed and dollar for pound-priced in the uk. things that'll make me want one sooner would be if it plays ps3 games and psn games (which i keep reading is unlikely).

should be interesting to see how they sell us this. at launch they can't really be casual because the price will be too high and they're not apple, but what will they have to make my ps3 look like shit?

also i hope the controller is heavier lol
February 10, 2013 @ 01:45:09
If it doesn't come with a disc drive & we have to resort to downloading games via PSN, I wouldn't be getting the PS4
as I don't have wi-fi access.

Wants to buy next-gen system, yet doesn't have something that most homes have had for half-a-decade. Even still, I'm sure it will have an ethernet port, so unless you're posting from 1998, your internet connection should work fine.

his is true, but i think they would be more willing to let someone else go first with having digital downloads only for games before they let it be done otherwise. I am curious to see what they pull off with this one though...

Can confirm a console release. Family member is an exec at Capcom and had already seen it weeks back at the Sony summit.

multiplatform games are 25GB max. Some PS3 exclusives are already 50GB~. I don't know about you but i do not want to download 50GB games (for space and time purposes). Internet bandwidth caps also make this a stupid idea in America. I have Time Warner Cable so it wouldnt necessarily affect me but asking someone to switch to an uncapped data plan just to download and play games online is unrealistic. even with a 150GB cap some people will hit caps. Average user uses 10GB a month so knock it down to 140.
