Will Grand Theft Auto V be a Digital-Only Release?

The trailer for Grand Theft Auto V is set to be revealed tomorrow, and we're expecting the first details—such as platforms and a release window—to come along with it. While we don't know much yet, one market data consulting group believes we won't see a version of Grand Theft Auto V on a disc.
According to analysts at Newzoo, Grand Theft Auto V is likely to be a trendsetter, opting for a digital-only release instead of appearing on discs. Newzoo CEO Peter Warman believes the game will still appear on store shelves, but won't include a disc in the package.

"The boxed GTA V version will contain a collectible piece of merchandise and a download code," he said. "No disc."

Hmm..That would be a huge step in gaming, but fuck,I can just imagine how much memory games would take up on the HD.shit could end up being a huge inconvenience.

if uncharted is 45 GB I'd assume GTA V to be around that. I honestly dont see it being download only. Servers would crash day 1. People would not be able to download it. All the bandwidth in the world wouldn't be able to hold that strain.

welp, looks like those spoilers were correct.

They cannot do a release as big as gta v with the current technology. Day one the servers are going to be absolutely hammered and no one will be able to download it. They would need an entire server farm dedicated to the release. It would real talk have to be the largest server farm for everything to go as smoothly as a store release. The servers will not be able to handle 5 million people trying to download a 30 gig+ game all at the same time. Download times would be like .01 kb/s.
