Sony's hosting a press event in Tokyo today where it just made the first announcement: a pair of Android 3.0 tablets -- yes, the very two Honeycomb slabs we told you about exclusively back in February. The first is the 9.4-inch S1 media tablet (aka, Qriocity focused) with a curved top much like a folded magazine and both front- and rear-facing cameras. The S1 features a Tegra 2 SoC and customized "Quick and Smooth" touch panel UI with "Swift" web browser. It can also be used as a remote control for Sony gear thanks to integrated infrared.

The second tablet is the dual-screen S2 clamshell with its pair of 5.5-inch 1,024 x 480 pixel displays, Tegra 2 SoC, and camera. While it sounds bulky, Kunimasa Suzuki just pulled the hinged tablet from his jacket pocket on stage. Sony takes advantage of the two screens with a custom book-style UI layout for its e-reader app, email (keyboard on one display with your messages on the other), and others. Both the S1 and S2 are PlayStation Certified, support DLNA, and are WiFi and 3G/4G "compatible" according to Sony. See the Sony tablets codenamed "S1" and "S2" in action after the break on their way to a global release in the fall -- possibly sooner in the US.

P.S. While the company isn't ready to talk prices yet, our sources told us back in February that Sony was considering a $599 MSRP on the S1 while the S2 would likely come in at $699. Still no word on the Windows 7 slider but with the other two leaks official, it's now only a matter of time.

Thanks it looks cool but for me it's something I would never have a real use for, and I hate touch screen controls for gaming.

Google I/O 2011

Yeah it's pretty fucking late. But whatevs. tongueface
I must say, Google's definitely stepping up their game for Android.
I'm extra excited for the Arduino support. In my eyes that's like unleashing an App Store in the world.. once you coin an idea and get some exposure that idea's yours. Not sure if there's going to be a site dedicated to this Android-Arduino dev and have it further organized that way but fuck, I've been on the fence on purchasing an Arduino lately and that just pushed me over &)
Another thing that caught my attention was the NFC sharing thing. Engadget had a few pics up where if two phones that had NFC support were streaming music side by side. Amazing. I'm pretty sure they could get it to transfer files considering how the normal NFC works.
And the whole Android@Home thing amazes me... Even though the idea is pretty old and rather useless LOL.

But I couldn't care less about Ice Cream Sandwich.

Anyone here follow it, or at least know what's going on? Can't wait for tomorrow.

Went from iOS to Android a few days ago. Got the Infuse 4G.

I really like the phone except I feel like I'm definitely going to have to root it...I miss some of the jailbreak features of my iPhone so hopefully rooting will fill that hole.

Any tips on what I should do right after rooting? Like certain apps, tweaks, etc.

I got a few things already. There aren't a lot of custom ROMs out yet for the Infuse. (fingers crossed some are made soon)

Where would I go about getting certain tweaks such as popup SMS and things of that sort? Or is that all built into the custom ROMS?

Sounds like you want Handcent SMS.. best one IMO.
Visit the XDA forums for all your rooting needs.. chances are if its android, its rooted or will be by somebody in those forums.

Ay, just thinking about getting myself an android device. Samsung Galaxy S2 just launched in my country like a month ago, quite cheap nowadays. But what's like the biggest differences or benefits to Android if you have been an iPhone user for like two years? How's the app-market of Android, any better than iPhone's in terms of quality?
