dddaaammmnnnnnn.... I got a FREE, literally FREE, Samsung Vibrant at Best Buy last friday for their last "free phone friday" and I am on ANDROID - ROOT overload!!
This shit FLIES like a fuckin jet compared to my old ass rooted G1! I downloaded this app called Quadrant Standard, which is a benchmark testing kinda app and the rooted Vibrant pretty much out performs any android phone with the kernal & hacks I got going.

This is a picture of what the results are looking like:

These arent necessarily MY results, and to be honest, dont know exactly what this all means, but what I DO know, is that my Vibrant hits/jumps around the 1800 mark with the current settings and is super responsive, havent had any force closes, run many many apps at the same time - no prob, plays demanding 3D games with no skips or problems... I'm SO glad I got this phone with so much root & custom access.

so my younger bro is getting an android for christmas. he's 16 and the only way he can get it is if it has an android porn filter for the web browser. is there any of the sort available? i researched an it says only iphone has it and not android. is this true?

My Hatred against Apple grows and grows, I hate their restrictions for explicit content and important technologies...So I think my next Phone will be a Android and my next Computer will also be no Mac anymore.

what's so great about rooting your droid?
December 08, 2010 @ 02:27:39
Well depends on what phone you have. I have a G1 rooted and I've tried the CM 6 rom and that shit works fine but then starts crashing, so I actually went back to an older rom.. HTCLAY's SuperBad. I think its based off a CM 5 rom, but its the only rom that I can say has ran super smooth, fast, and rarely crashes.
With a rooted phone you use wifi tethering, use roms that are based off of Froyo updates like the rom you have now, overclock - underclock the phone to speed up or slow down the phone to save battery or increase performance, full customization of almost anything... lots of stuff that I'm sure I forgot to mention or havent tried.

since posting that a while ago, I have gotten a Vibrant and rooted it... smooth, fast, and sweet ass display!
If you have the option to root a phone, DO IT!!

i found this youtube video that shows that it can be done.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FEw3bs5Xybw

for the price is not bad, the cheapest there is, i originally bought the nook for just reading and shit and its cool to know that i can go online and have all the features of a tablet.

As for the webcam, that shit ranges from $500 up. in that case i would recommend the samsung galaxy tab.

Gingerbread 2.2 For G2
I just got my T-Mobile G2 about 2weeks ago and its my first android phone. I loved it right out the box, and I still do but when I started doing research on Android I saw that 2.3 Gingerbread was coming out this month. I was pissed lol. So my question is, will the G2 get an update for it???
December 23, 2010 @ 12:46:01
Official update? You'd have to check with your provider.

You can always flash a custom ROM on it regardless.
December 23, 2010 @ 12:46:51
yeah you will, how soon, who knows.. but shouldnt be too long!?
You could root your phone and have one of the baddest phones around if you want though...
google these sights for all the info you will need:

- XDA

- Androidspin

- Phandroid

December 24, 2010 @ 02:05:07

Most if not all rooting methods require a nandroid backup which is essentially a saved state of your phone. So if by some small chance you fuck something up you can restore back to that state and everything will work.

The g2 doesnt have sense because its a sequel to the g1 which was the first android phone, before sense was developed. To keep the tradition they left it out. For what its worth i think sense blows so i got an ASOP rom (Cyanogen 6.1) for my Evo.
