What do y'all find more fitting for a med school student - an iMac or an MacBook Pro? My cousin was thinking about getting an iMac for his dorm, but I told him that a laptop would definitely be more convenient. He was going to do an iMac/iPad combo, leaving him with processing power when needed, but mobility as well when he's on the go. He's basically on a limitless budget, so he's now considering the higher-end 15" MBP, for roughly $2,000 (some extras added on through Apple.com).

if he has a limitless budget tell him to get all three. I have a high end 15" MBP and it is great but can get pretty heavy at times. definitely reaching the upper limits of portability but it is extremely well powered. i would love to have an ipad + MBP combo. MBP for power and ipad for portability / e-book reader. id suggest high end MBP and ipad but that's just me. I do a lot of traveling with my MBP in the city.

Hmm... maybe an MBP and iPad? He'll be in the city too, but I figured he can still move around with the MBP (even if it is a little heavier).

Yeah, I think he's going to do the 15" MBP, with an iPad later on.

If it comes down to it, it is super easy to just manually get all of your files on to your Droid. It's just a matter of finding the right folders and drag & dropping.

I would do this.. I would grab the 11" air and the 21" iMac.. With the student discount it will being it to about 2000 and he was going to drop that anyway on a high powered mbp.. This way he has can have a desk top which is easier to do work on but also have a laptop for mobility and easier to carry.. Just an opinion cause an iPad can only do some much but an air can do everything..

2012... There is no new hardware coming out the rest of the year, only updated hardware such as the iphone, iMac and macbook air..

Wow, sounds like it has a lot of potential. The only real problem with it is that each alloy cell can only hold one bit of memory. I'm sure they'll find a way around that, and, once they do, it sounds flawless.

It'll probably topple Thunderbolt.

I also jumped on the back to school deal. Do you guys recommend keeping your music library on an external drive? Any essential apps to buy with the $100 app store credit?

Just copped the 15" MBP after selling my older 13" MBP for like 950 bucks. Shit looks and runs great.

I also got a free printer by buying at UNCC's apple store and using my friend's student id card swag. They didn't even bother questioning me. swag swag

It all depends how much music you have. Personally I like keeping the music locally.

they need to kill the white macbook already or upgrade it. The most overpriced system i've ever seen, 1000 bucks for 2 gigs of RAM, Core 2 duo, and iSight. Shit is full of outdated technology.

Is anyone using Solid state drive? Thinking about getting my MBP with a 128gb SSD, but is it worth it?

I'm not fucking with SSDs until they are able to provide them at the same capacity as HDDs for the same price.

I didn't buy the warranty so I will probably add or upgrade to a SSD soon. I read about taking out the dvd drive and putting the ssd in there so I can still have a drive with more space. I think paying what Apple wants for a SSD installed is bullshit, but you can then get the warranty, so it kind of makes sense.
