It's not very rare, it's a growing problem. That's why Apple is starting to put virus protection in their software.

This.

The more popular apple gets the more you'll start to see virus' made for macs

Haha, that's so damn true.
I pirate music/movies but I spend hundreds of dollars on clothing. Make no damn sense.

I've got a question for you mac fellas.

I'm contemplating pickin up a mbp or just a basic mac. Are these better than say a windows xps? Like the specs and such? Am i getting good stuff with the price of a mac rather than upgrade to i5 processor, more memory, and a better video card for the xps? I want my laptop to last a few years and be reliable. Any help would be appreciated cool

Buy an external hard drive.

Not sure if there are any reliable 2TB drives out there, but be sure to DIY. Buy an enclosure and the 2TB drive separately. It'll cost much less.

lol I know, well the original plan was to do 3 partitions: Mac OSx 500gb, Windows 7 500gb, 1tb to share documents, movies, music.

but now that I think about it I might just do a 1.5TB and put 500gb to each partition.

WD caviar black if you can afford it.

Also, can anyone recommend some good apps for the mac and/or some good software to dl.

some stuff i use:

Maintenance
Appzapper - completely rids your comp of all related installed files. sometimes dragging app to trash won't completely do it (recommended).
Drive Genius 2 - drive maintenance prog
Pacifist - install individual files from installers without installing the whole prog
The Unarchiver - osx's winrar (recommended)

A/V
Audacity - free and quality audio editor
Comicbooklover - the itunes of.cbr files for you comic nerds
Fluke - converts flac files to be played in itunes
Handbrake - the best free converter you can have for osx (recommended)
Parallels - you probably know about this one (recommended)
PS3 Media Server - allows you to stream files from PS3 to OSX (specially bluray torrents, you pirates)
Tuneaid - backup ipod files to osx
Xee - jpeg/gif viewer because preview sucks (recommended)
VLC (recommended)

Customization
Candybar - archives and changes icons (recommended)
Loginox - easily changes login screen background
Slim Battery Monitor - just for aesthetics
Superdocker - dock changing client. this may be obsolete now?

Networking
Hotspot shield - one-click proxy (recommended)
iStumbler - basically detects existing wifi connections (for us nerds)

Etc.
NewNewsWire - RSS client

I use MediaLink to stream to my PS3, probably works with 360 too.

MBP, just get the 13 inch. I too switched from a Hp to a Mbp, it is so much better and have no problems at all with it so far.
