It is definitely a trend, but i think it always has been. But we were just to young to realize it. (assuming you guys are same age as me) When we were young we never would have heard about or cared about this stuff, and as we mature this is just something our age group tends to like. But Jordans have always been big. I remember even in middle school everyone trying to get the latest releases. Its something thats going to be big in every generation when they are 15-early 20s probably. Then they will mature out of it and follow something else. The hype 20 years ago, I'm positive isn't at the same level as it is today. Jordan's have always been a staple in the sneaker community, we all know that. When it came to the love for exclusives(limited releases), vintage, and elusive color ways it seemed to be more of a underground sneaker head thing. Now, everyone thinks they're a sneaker head, its like the thing to do now, it just seems to be the new craze...it surely more trendy then ever.This. Just like how everyone is a "pothead" today, it's a trend. They see their favorite rappers doing thing and then mimic what they see.
Even looking at from like the early 2000's to now in 2012 almost 2013, it seems like the mainstream popularity of this kind of sneaker following has took a turn for the masses.
I've learned to take HB not so seriously.
Can someone fill me on all this?
I haven't been in on the Jordan craze of lately but I am curious as to if it was always this popular? I know the Jordan brand has been highly appraised for quite some time.Everyone would be excited for the latest release even prior to now but in recent years has it risen to new heights to even more of the main stream public beyond your typical underground sneaker heads? I mean news coverage of people waiting for Concords would be an example, everyone on instagram posting their bred 4s and I do mean everyone.
It seems as if its become rather trendy and I don't always remember seeing this much hype surrounding the brand until lately, especially at this level. It's just weird everyone wanting the same shoe and then everyone goes to wait in line, on to the next day where everyone is having the same shoes on. Maybe it's just me but it just seems to lack any originality and when everyone has the same shoes on, where is the unique individuality at?
Is this something rather new that arose in the last decade or so?
Everyone was on Nike SB's till they went downhill now everyone back on Jordans again. SMH. fucking ghetto blacks.
People just get them cause its popular not cause they actually like them -_-

I partially agree with some of you guys I do think alot of people are TRYING to buy retro jordans because of the hype (tumblr is to blame! lol jk) and not because they actually like the style of the shoe. The reason I say TRYING is because I honestly havent seen alot of people wearing jordans wear I live (except a few of my friends but I sold them the jays they have) I think the hype is more of a shoe worship? sorta like gucci belts, everyone likes em but cant afford em ya know?Everyone likes gucci belts? log off b.
i dont think it will ever go back to GRs sittin on shelves for days thoUhh.. the VIII's are still sitting on shelves.
kanye really popularized some of the select jordans.... re releases made them accessible to just about everyone haha, for cheap of course... also blame tumblr too....I don't think it's just Kanye, bro. Why do people always act like Kanye some kind of fashion god? It just so happens that black is "in" nowadays to the hip-hop community. Kanye's just another rapper wearing black. Eminem has been doing that for a while now.
