i thikn the message is great the construction is some of the best in streetwear but i must agree.. dont we think it a bit problematic that the message is indeed... embedded within the inside of the hoody. sure someone might mention that the real reason they did this is so that the message or iconic history of those who have suffered for the blacks are closer to our heart by being inside the garment.. but might it be a cop out? by doign that they ensure that all types will buy their product. Its a bit too safe for me. if they wanna have a message. put the shit on the outside and let the consumer make their own judgement as to whether or not they wanna be completely revolutionary. a bit of a cop out if you ask me.

feels like they wanted to do somethign new, somethign edgy and something confrontational. but in the end they putj the messages and racial icons on the inside. Seems at the last second they were like, "shit are these gonna sell? well i dont know, how bout we turn the shit inside out and im sure brad and lucas will still cop."

youre an idiot homie...so cats is wrong for complaining about somebody trying to commercialize slavery?!? wtf? who cares if the dude is black, that dont justify it...if anything it makes it worse...

its a difference between being controversial and being offensive and seeing a logo of a ***** picking cotton is hella offensive...what's next the bamboozled line?!?

I'm guessing most will protest this kind of stuff, cuz doing so is PC, and we're all supposed to be shocked and appalled by this kind of thing. "How dare you make light of slavery?!?"

and whats pc about getting mad at this imagery?? whats the next logo gonna be a noose wit a ***** hanging from it...u gonna call it the strange fruit hoody?!? fucking morons these are reasons why blacks are treated the way they are in america...because people think that was a foregone part of US History...when really is at the foreground on how blacks are treated and how they treat themselves in americas society...my bad for rambling but I got a degree in Pan-africanism and shit like this just pisses me off farreal...

What's PC about it is, no matter what somebody thinks about it, they'll say they are outraged about it. If you thought anything else of it, you would be either ignorant or a bigot, or a combination of both.

edit: I mean... just look at some of the knee-jerk reaction in this forum... "it's offensive," "promotes violence and racism," etc... but look what is going on in this forum: you're bringing race and societal issues into a clothing forum and opening up the discussion. Isn't it a good thing to remind everyone that these issues still exist?

This is some of the stupidest fuckin shit I've yet to read on this thread. I guarantee this dude and 90% of all the other people defendin this bullshit are white.

I'm gonna design a shirt with this as the design:

Sure, the intentions were good but they didn't do the message justice in the execution. I mean check their embroidered logo--that's ridiculous. I can't even fathom MLK Jr., Malcolm X, or any other African-Americans of that time being appreciative of this exploitation of their struggle if they could see this.

Like I said when I PM'ed you, I was obviously being sarcastic to show how stupid this logo is. Having a picture of a slave as your logo isn't satirizing slavery, it's promoting slavery. Sure, the intent is for it not to, but that's what it's doing.

What are you five? Would you rather that people pretended slavery never happened? would you rather that we denied that America's position of the greatest superpower on earth is basically built on the stolen lives of tens of thousands of slaves? You're the moron who wants to sweep history under the rug. we have to confront the past and learn from our mistakes or we'll be right back there soon enough. when was the last time a clothing brand made you think about anything this deeply? you gotta give props to Adrian A for kickstarting this debate if nothing else/

This is some more stupid shit.

Why is not wanting a slave as a logo the same as trying to ignore slavery? No one's trying to forget slavery, we just don't agree with the exploitation of it to further a clothing brand.

What debate? A debate on a message board? Oh man, what influence this guy must have. Fuckin idiots, I swear. You all must be 16 or younger.

That's funny coz i thought you and elprezzo were 15, tops. I never said this is the illest logo of all time or it's for everyone. BUT i do think the brand brings an important issue to the forefront in much the same in-your-face way that Dave Chapelle deals with much of the same issues. And if the brand can spark this debate here on Hypebeast, a forum dedicated to the most vain and meaninglessly allover printed flashes in the pan, then perhaps it's doing its job elsewhere too. You guys just love to drop some disses and make a dumb comment and shit on a real conversation huh.

COMMERCIALIZE slavery? PROMOTE slavery? Are you guys serious? What do you think this is? Like a black guy wearing that hoodie will one day look down at the logo and be like "you know what man? I'm gonna get myself a slave!". Or someone walking down the street will see his hoodie and then capture him as a slave? Are you guys retarded?

If you are not black and want to comment on the aesthetics, cool. But please don't try to sound smart and concerned by defending another race, when they may not even be offended to begin with. The same people on here that are hating on this, LOVED them some handless Diamond/Crooks african kid prints 2 months ago.

It just makes me chuckle, cuz it's almost like a prominent black designer finally found a way to make fashion for black people without other races jumping on the bandwagon. Maybe that's why everyone is upset...

There's streetwear that you can't even wear, and that must hurt.

To my understanding the TBG line has a different theme per season.
Their first season was focused on slavery and the oppression of black people.
I have not really seen much of the upcoming seasons but I am pretty sure it is going to be themed toward something completely different than the current line.

I like it.

Being black myself... I'm all for educating and exposing others to our history and culture, but not like this! From an art standpoint I understand what they're trying to do, but from a fashion standpoint they completely missed their target audience. They significantly limited their sales because of that! They might have sold out two pieces on DG, but that is just due to the hype DG gets, not because TBG stuff was hot.

The fuck is this bringing to the forefront? No one is talkin about slavery or the atrocities that happened during that era. Everyone is debating about the logo itself and on whether it is appropriate or not.

This is exploitation.

No one is being educated about slavery by this logo. You think a white person wearing a shirt with a slave picking cotton on it is going to be accepted by your everyday black person? Shit, even a black person wearing something with this logo is suspect. This is like having a logo of a Jewish person in a concentration camp.

What real conversation is happening in this thread? There is none.
