i'm about the same height. it's fine but it feels weird if you carry it low on your back, but then it feels weird when you carry it high.. but maybe it's cause i have my 15 inch macbook pro in there.
so yeah, it does have enough space for a 15 inch, and notebooks. that's what i put in there. but there isn't much protection so i did use my laptop sleeve as well.

i got a 13" VAIO and its fits in there. still room for a hoodie or some magazines, a hat or whatever too
