Your backpacks are awesome, but $250 is really expensive. I'd buy if it came down to $100.

Thanks for the kind words guys. We know the price range is a bit high for some people but that is the market we are targetting. And yes the quality is there!

People don't quite have a grasp yet on how expensive and how much labor goes into the organic dyeing. We are planning to release a video to help people visualize the work behind the dyeing process and also the fact that each bag is hand made in a small workshop.

We are also developing an entire collection, can't wait to show you guys what's in store for 2012! Stay tuned and thanks for the support as always HB.

Sourcing Cordura for the new collection:

All the buckles, straps, lining, padding, zippers, etc are sourced from this oldschool part of Seoul.

Learned so much about Korean organic dyeing from this lady yesterday. Her and a whole gang of middle aged ahjemahs were getting down on all this Korean silk and these are the patterns they made hanging up to dry. Dyed with natural indigo, wood chips, mix of berries, charcoal, and gallnut.

Organic dyeing veterans in the game

This is a pattern one of the older ladies made by “accident”. The colors are amazing, and how the Korean silk feels is crazyyyyy. Too bad you can’t use silk on bags because of the wear and tear, it absorbs the organic dye so much better than cotton.

pure natural indigo

Amazing pattern one of the older ladies made. The Korean silk is woven so finely you can see through it.

Another amazing pattern with Korean alphabet lettering

Using cordura, leather, and organic dye in our new collection. More updates as they come!

Paper prototype of our daypack we made lol

Last glimpse of Fall in Seoul outside our office while walking home after a longggg day of work

This fruit right here is the base of most of the colors for traditional Korean organic dyed fabrics. First, unripened (when these are still green) they are smashed into a pulpous juice and then mixed with cold running water. Then the other

ingredients are added depending on what color you want the fabric to become. Assortment of nuts, indigo, volcanic ash, bugs, etc, anything found in nature. But the base of the dye is made from Korean persimmon fruit.

Whole wooden barrel of solid indigo dye. It feels so earthy in your hands and the dye powder is very hard to wash off.

Preview of our Ash Black color and our Monk Sack straps. The outer part of the bag is a 100% organic dyed Korean Silk/Cotton blend. The color you see is made by mixing Korean persimmon fruit, charcoal, and burnt ash. The patterned texture on every yard of this fabric is different, making each individual Monk Sack completely unique.

Both straps are hand-knotted to create a beautiful bow and the entire bag will soften with continuous use and look better over time.

This is the inside of our Ash Black Weekender bag. You can see a small peek of how the Korean Silk/Cotton and the Natural leather colors and textures combine. Perfect for a weekend getaway.

Few updates..

Inside leather patches

These are our backpack handles before they are sewn on. 100% natural double-layered leather so its extremely sturdy! There are no logo prints anywhere on the bags except the handle where IISE is hand stamped.

Behind the scenes production shot! All of our bags are handmade in a small workshop in Seoul by people who have been in the industry for over 30 years.

Detailed shot of our straps before they are connected to our M2 & Daypack models. We love the ash black color and how textured and random the patterns are for each and every strap.

Another behind the scenes shot from our lookbook shoot. Traditional Korean architecture is so inspirational. The details you can find on the roofs, doors, and walls are all amazing.

Army of IISE daypacks ready to take over.

Production is now officially finished, few more days to our release!
