Guillermo del Toro's 2013 giant robots vs. giant monster movie Pacific Rim, starring Charlie Hunnam, Rinko Kikuchi, Idris Elba, Max Martini, Rob Kazinsky, Clifton Collins Jr. and Diego Klattenhoff

In the film, legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, start rising from the sea and begin a war that would takes millions of lives and consumes humanity’s resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes-a washed up former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi)-who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind’s last hope against the mounting apocalypse.

this is why im hyped too. i mean,
- mechs fighting monsters. (the fact they call them 'kaiju' is respectable)
- pilots in a "neural bridge"
- the heroes are a "washed up pilot" and an "untested trainee"
- using an "seemingly outdated" mech

these are like all of the classic elements of a good anime. there should be some badass moments.

Heck yeah man, so many anime similarities, Big O, Gundam, Ghost in the Shell, Attack on Titan, reminded me of Attack the Block too.

The previews made it look shit. Might still see it. It doesn't remind me of Kaiju films at all, looks more like an average summer blockbuster. It might be decent Mecha, but I'm not a big Mecha fan.

Saw this shit today and was impressed. If the audience I watched it with wasn't so chill I woulda flipped the fuck out during some scenes. Previews made it look like some Speed Racer shit but it's more along the lines of Avatar.

See it in IMAX 3D for full effect.

GO SEE IT.

If you are a fan of Mech, Gundam, Robots.. You're gonna enjoy this movie. I wanted to cheer, shout, etc on multiple occasion.  I was in total fanboy mode as it brought back good ole childhood memories of watching anime, cartoons, godzilla, etc. The CGI were off the chart. I enjoyed this movie more than The Man of Steel.
