I understand why they're going with the modern soundtrack, though.

I like the visuals. Luhrmann has it spot-on. Now the only question is if he can make the story/acting even better.

I also hope the director knows that the book wasn't about romance, but the obsession, racism, and class warfare that was rampant in the 20s.

No kidding. Trying to appeal to the young'ins, I guess. But Williams as Zelda looks on point for that conflicted personality expression.

Looks dope to me, to hell with people hating on the music choice/stylizing. When the book came out in the 20's, jazz/booze/parties/the lifestyle had a lock on the young people. It was new, exciting, and fun. Looking at all that through a 2012 lens, and it can be very boring to us. We have our own versions of that now.

I think by adding the new music and modernizing elements of it all, the movie will have an impact akin to the time period it was published.

Believe it or not this movie was built from the ground up as a 3D movie. They had a stereographer on set and didn't do it in post which will give it an even more realistic feel. The sets are also built around 3D and will provide a ridiculous sense of depth. I was talking to a prominent stereographer today about it and he was telling me about how it's going to be amazing in 3D based on the set design alone. I might see it 3D bc of all the work they put into it and I never pay to see movies. Watching the trailer now looking for all the depth and ways they created it is crazy.

lol, been saying this for years.

but anyone feeling strage about the modern music and the pacing probably doesn't know Luhrmans work, that's what he does, he gives classic shit a new twist. Romeo + Juliet, Moulin Rouge, he goes over the top, and I tend to love it so I'm excited about this, it's going to be a crazy visual experience.

And I haven't read the book yet, I never got it in school, wish I had a copy though.

Jesus christ. If you watch a high quality trailer, you can see how much fucking depth is created through the use of wide depth of field and texture. Almost everything is in focus which creates the depth and the texture in the backgrounds is going to make the 3D pop. You guys are fools for saying this movie is gonna flop. I might go as far as saying this movie will do more for 3D than Avatar did. But that's just me.
