Prometheus is an upcoming science fiction film directed by Ridley Scott and starring Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender, Guy Pearce, Idris Elba, Logan Marshall-Green and Charlize Theron. The film was originally intended as a direct prequel to the 1979 science fiction horror film Alien; however, the events of the film will not precede any of the previously established characters or story lines from the Alien franchise.

yeah the movie originally started as Ridley Scott's return to the Alien franchise (and sci-fi in general). then as he started working on it, they started coming up with new ideas and it turned into it's own movie. its still supposed to be in the same universe as the Alien movies though, but they say there wont be any actual Aliens in it.

We've been over due for a good sci-fi movie with great effects (last one was Avatar imo). So many great films coming out in 2012.

I'm really looking forward to this movie. Initially I thought that it was a prequel to Alien, but I read on Ridley Scott's Wiki that it's not a direct prequel.
