Pretty sure this movie isn't actually titled Wolverine 2...going with "The Wolverine"

this is true. this movie is supposed to be a "stand alone" and will not reference the earlier X-Men Origins (or any of the other X-men movies probably)

This thread was made before the official title was decided, and the project was just known as "the next Wolverine movie"

^ Nah, that's most likely some BS excuse.

The real reason was probably the Japan situation.

this is great since its on the hands of a good director. i hope he doesnt fuck it up. which i have no doubt he wont...i really like his movies, trippy and cool. japan is gonna be depressing at the end im sure. with the japanese chick that before became lady deathstrike (forgot her real name) im glad they didnt try to recast logan/wolverine cuz nobody is better than hugh jackman and he was tailor made to be wolverine, in fact he IS wolverine.

man, losing aronofsky is prob some of the worst movie-related news ive heard in a long ass time.

he's one of my favorite directors and he was working on one of my favorite stories of one of my favorite comic book characters.

FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK.

i've lost like 80% of my interest in this movie now. depending on who they get to replace him....

i wonder if the whole "family" thing was a cover-up for Fox trying to rape his vision of the movie.

then again, i did read that he's currently going through a custody battle with his ex-wife for his kid. i'm sure being out of the country for a year wouldn't have helped that fight.

yeah, u gotta respect the reasoning behind it, but aronofsky would have lit this movie UP. he only does a film every year or two, but he is on point in every way

I wish he rethink about his decision. Without him the movie will go nowhere

Glad he left. Movie would have set his career back another two years. He's already gone through that before.

how would this have hurt his career? christopher nolan did a "comic book movie" and it was probably the biggest thing to happen to his career. he went from being a talented but relatively unknown director to the a-list. he definitely wouldn't have had to scope and means to create something like inception if he hadn't had dark knight under his belt.

of course.... this is all assuming that the aronofsky wolverine would have been a quality movie on par with dark knight (in terms of comic book movies) as well as aronofsky's other work.

the main worry was that Fox would intervene and try to take over creative control. however, the beauty of aronofsky directing this was that he has a lot of influence and pull over at fox since he's given them recent hits for their indie label fox searchlight (black swan, the wrestler)
