one thing i liked about this story is the subzero and scorpion beef. if u ever read the comic they had (dont know why after all these yrs i remember this), these two did have a problem with each other and scorpion did kill subzero's brother.

Pretty sure this is just a spec short to see if they can procure funding for a full-length. There's definitely something behind it. Michael Jai White's got a lot of clout right now due to the success of Black Dynamite and Jeri Ryan's definitely not an A-lister but she's certainly a biger name than anyone in the original Mortal Kombat at the time of it's release. Plenty of real martial artists too like Lateef Crowder.

this

The director created this to pitch his idea/vision to Warner Bros.

Hell yeah. Reptile freaked me the fuck out and although Baraka looks diff, still tight. I'm stoked; this could be the first really good video game movie

If it doesn't get picked up, I have no hope for the movie industry. It's perfect timing, especially after the success of the Batman Begins/Dark Knight series. It would be following it it's footsteps, basically.

alright let's not get crazy here, I'm sure it will be a fun action packed thrill ride but there's no way this is going to compare to TDK in terms of pure movie quality

Where did I say it was going to compare? I'm just saying it would be riding on that series' coattails, so it's bound to at least have the POTENTIAL to be successful, should it be done right.

Really?
You've never seen Bloodsport? The Quest? Lionheart?

Speaking of Van Damme...he needs to play Johnny Cage. I don't care if Johnny Cage is supposed to be American. Fuck it. Give Van Damme some work.

from wiki:

(game)
The series began originally as a game based on the popular actor martial artist, Jean-Claude Van Damme.

(film)
Linden Ashby as Johnny Cage, a Hollywood superstar that enters the tournament to prove to the world that his skills are for real. Jean-Claude Van Damme turned down the role of Johnny Cage to star on Street Fighter. Tom Cruise and Johnny Depp were both considered for the role. Martial artist Gary Daniels was also considered for the role. Brandon Lee was originally cast, but died before production began.

I say if Johnny Cage would have done his patented splits to ball-sack punch on Baraca, he would have been able to run away. After that, who knows what could have happened then.
