NO SPOILERS

I'm an avid movie watcher and sometimes you just run out of films to watch (wide releases) and anything that isn't a wide release is a risk of spending ~2 hours through a shitty movie.

This thread is dedicated to all the movies that didn't receive a wide release or didn't receive huge acclaim. Movies that are not well known, but are still enjoyable in their own right. I'm a firm believer that movies of different production values can still provide a worthwhile experience.

RULES:

1) No fuckin spoilers. If you wanna post a spoiler mark it or hide it.

2) Only post movies you have seen personally and think is worth posting.

3) One more time. NO SPOILERS!

---

My recent list:

Martys - Intense and sticks with you. It's quite graphic so be warned.

Solomon Kane - Very Hellsing meets LoTR kind of feel. Not too shabby and reminds me of the old 80s fantasy movies.

Triangle - Great film that'll make you think and try to decipher WTF is going on. Definitely a good film to say the least and sparks conversation between viewers.

Highlight for spoiler:
I personally think she's in her own version of hell doomed to repeat the same loop over and over again. The loop begins with her son and her dying in the car accident. She goes to hell for being an abusive mother and results in her having to repeat the same horrific events, witnessing how horrible she was, and in the end not being able to save her son or change the course of fate.

Blue Spring (Aoi Haru)
Directed by: Toshiaki Toyoda (9 Souls, Toyko Rampage)

A fight for dominance within a Japanese highschool. The visuals are superb, as is the soundtrack. Film features one of the best time-lapse segments I've ever seen. You'll probably become a big fan of Toyoda after watching this.

Primer
Director: Shane Carruth

Made on a budget $7K, only 2-3 minutes were cut from all the film used. About time-travel. Some of the dialogue is a tad esoteric, but you get over that and on subsequent viewings, you should be able to grasp it well enough. The characters appear rather bland at first, but after 'getting to know them', you'll see that they are played perfectly.

Both of these movies hold high acclaim in certain circles.

Oh, Martyrs was trash after the first half. It was perfectly executed French 'gore-or', then it tried to get 'smart' and 'thought provoking'.

This is more like a D-F Movie but one of my pesonal favs lol

Black Witch Project
www.blackhorrormovies.com/blackwitchproject.htm

Rarely has there been such a sorry excuse for a movie as The Black Witch Project. It goes without saying that it exists solely to exploit the popularity of The Blair Witch Project, but it's so inept that it doesn't even parody that film. It doesn't involve "found footage", there's no trademark handheld camerawork, there's no close-up of someone crying as in the famous "I am so scared" scene (despite what the cover art implies), and oh yeah, THERE'S NO $%&!$@ WITCH! Instead, this is a standard (make that sub-standard) slasher with a generic faceless killer. It's painfully evident that the idiots responsible for this film (most notably writer/director Velli) just stumbled upon a camera and started filming with no script, no technical savvy, no acting experience, and no brain to speak of. If this is a student film, then these people are riding the short bus. The story -- if that's what you want to call it -- finds some distinctly un-military types on some sort of military exercise (it's never explained what they're doing or why none of their camouflage matches). A killer shows up but never succeeds in killing anyone. The end. The scenes in BWP are incoherent (due to piss-poor sound and the fact that everyone talks over one another) and illogical. First, the soldiers are cooped up in a cabin, scared to death that there's a killer outside, and then all of a sudden, they're taking a stroll through the woods. And no one tries to leave, phone for help, or I dunno, use their guns. The killer, meanwhile, is less than intimidating, dressed in black from head to toe like a broke-ass ninja. There's no gore whatsoever, the attempts at scares are truly pitiful, and overly dramatic music blares at wildly inappropriate times. BWP is so incompetent, it doesn't even last long enough to be a feature-length movie. It runs barely 50 minutes long, and that's with 15 minutes of credits! (The credits, incidentally, may have a stronger plot than the film itself.) If this movie cost more than $3,000, I'd be surprised. And if it did, they overpaid by $2,500. I never thought I'd say this, but The Black Witch Project belongs in the same, rarified air as the lowest of the low, Ax 'Em. At least Ax 'Em tried to have a bit of a plot, and there was some gore and make-up required -- not just someone renting a Snake Eyes costume from the local party store. It's jackasses like the people behind BWP -- who don't respect the horror genre, let alone the craft of film -- that make the rest of us so damn homicidal.

Momento

similar in style to Shutter Island. i really enjoyed it. worth watching a few times also. you understand it better that way

Memento is #27 on IMDb's top 250 of all-time and was nominated for a couple Oscars. It was also directed by Christopher Nolan, who is quite a big name director these days. There are plenty of other facts that would keep it from qualifying as a B movie, unless we go solely on the sub-$5m budget criteria. Movie was really good though.

came in to say this lol, primer is a slight mindfuck, u really need like 2 or 3 run throughs before you get a firm grasp on it

anyway since that was taken, my votes go to

Dear Wendy & Wristcutters: A Love Story

I'll start with wristcutters in a brief plot synopsis, this movie follows a guy who killed himself over a bad breakup with his girlfriend, but contrary to popular belief, suicides dont automatically go to hell, they go to a sort of purgatory where there new world is almost exactly like this one, only everything is slightly shittier, no can physically smile anymore, the world is in muted colors, all food is bland and u still have to work, lol the main character works in a shitty pizzaria and lives with some fat room mate who's always eating cottage cheese

*REALLY MINOR SPOILER ALERT*

early in the movie he finds out his girlfriend from his past life also killed herself and now the search for his dead girlfriend becomes the plot vehicle lol

*/END SPOILER ALERT*

The 2nd Film "Dear Wendy" takes place in a small mining town and follows a young protaganist named blablabla lol i dont remember its been a while, anyway his father died when he was young and he basically takes care of himself during his teenage years, he's pretty introverted and has no friends until he finds an old vintage pistol he names wendy, he starts walking around with it and now gains confidence that comes with the knowledge of holding 6 peoples lives in your hands lol, anyway he forms an undergound gun club and other losers join up and bla bla bla just watch this lol, both those moves i put in my top 30 relative unknown but still excellent movies list lol

this movie is a little more well known, but if you got the time to spare and like super ridiculously sad movies, rent "Dancer In The Dark" lol real talk, i almost cried during this shit, bjork plays the lead and actually did her thing in this shit

I don't think the term "B-Movie" applies to most of these. So I guess we're just going with lesser known movies? In that case...

Pretty cool time-travel based movie. It's Spanish though, so... subtitled.

Really good vampire movie. Another foreign movie.

A kid dies and the movie follows the lives of his 3 friends afterward. I liked this a lot.

An older movie, but really good. Hard to explain what its about without giving away too much. It's a drug scheme involving a blind woman... I guess that's not a great description.

Wristcutters was great if only for Gob. Same character as in Arrested Development for the most part.

Wait Until Dark? We must really be off that B-movie tip if we have Audrey Hepburn movies being posted. Hepburn film most applicable to this thread is probably Paris - When it Sizzles, but you can't really appreciate its genius unless you've seen her films that came before it. Actually, most don't like this movie, but it's my favourite Hepburn film.

Fuck. Can't believe I forgot Kin Dza Dza. It's Russian, and I don't think they've made a region 1 DVD ever, but download it, endure the fansubs and I promise you'll still like it.

Memento is considered "B" material?

It's a Chris Nolan film for God's sake.
