you really can't tell the difference between writing it down on paper and interpreting what's written into a feature film?

A good director takes the screenplay and portrays it in an improved and unique way. A good director makes a film that is more than a sum of all its parts.

i thought that that's what everyone did when they read. they play it out in their head. but i do guess everyone has different visions.
But what does it take to get an award for best director? Having the best vision?

You guys, how are sex scenes filmed? Personally, if I were ever to write a screenplay, I wouldn't wanna write a sex scene -- I mean, in all these network TV shows, they manage to do it without doing it.

But how do you write that? And how do you film it without someone getting offended? When you're casting, do you have to see them naked, like in Zack & Miri Make a Porno?

haha no man, usually when the sex scenes are filmed...there are only necessary people on set...they ask everyone who aint doin anything to leave the set usually...people who write sex scenes...write them cause they will move the story along and prvide emotion and whatnot to the viewer, etc..

cheers

What makes a good director?
Why did Scorsese win Best director for The Departed?
I like the movie, but i think any director could of done the same thing.

There's a lot the director does. A LOT. I would explain what but.... there's a lot to explain.

Now that I'm not tired I'll explain the directors duties.
-The director is basically in charge of the look, feel and sound of the film, on time and on budget.

-The director has to plan what is going to be shot and when way in advance during preproduction,(storyboard).

-The director has to work closely with producers/studio execs to hire the cast and crew in pre production too.

-He/She also has to work closely with scouting locator for the actual places the scenes will be shot.

-There's also legal things that have to be sorted out before the movie is shot, extras, blocking off streets, bla bla bla.

-When the movie is being shot the director has to make sure he has the scene lit the way he wants by communicating with the director of photography if the camera angle is correct, if it matches the storyboard, if he does not want it to match the story board.

-Make sure the set is designed correctly.

-GET YOUR ACTORS TO ACT THE WAY YOU ENVISION, BRING THE BEST OUT OF THEM.

-Lighting needs to be on point, the director oversees if the lighting is up to his "vision"

-Makes sure the audio is good. With bad audio you have bad takes.

-After things are done shooting the director works with the editor to piece the film together.

-Clears any music, takes care of other legal issues.

-Submits film to festivals/ Gives film to studio.

I'm sure I may have missed a couple of things and most of this is from an independent point of view. The higher up you are the less you do, but you are still in charge of these things. Basically if you are a big name you tell someone what you want to be done and they do it.

it seems kinda lazy to me. there aren't that many stories i think that require actual sex scenes, as opposed to sexual references.

ive never seen a sex scene that actually added to the film. not once. @havean my email is aldylandude@aol.com and also you said a director clears the music, but the music supervisor does that. that is honestly one of my dream jobs is music supervision the present music that the think works for the film to director and i know i would be great at it.

I always had this vision of going to film school, meeting up with a group of the right people, and becoming mad epic. My role would be the guys who just comes up with ideas. The guy who says, "Well why don't you do this?"

I was totally thinking of the shit I'd have to do,haha. The director is still in charge of making sure it get done correctly and on time. Also I'm totally going to change the first part of my screenplay. My vision for the characters are a very different. I'm thinking about making them "hipsters" because I think the culture and It will make a better film, however I think it will weaken the screenplay. I'll send it over in a sec though.

So I wrote a short little screenplay with intentions to shoot it but chickened out because I thought my material wasnt funny and gave the screenplay to somebody else. It turns out i think I didnt make the right decision. The acting is a little tough but they're just kids.

I've been shooting music videos for a little over a year now. Planning on getting into film soon though. I don't have enough posts to put up a link but if you go over to glcitymusic.com and do a search for great white imagination, the link to the video we directed and they posted should come up.

I keep forgetting about this thread.

This past week we screened our 2nd project Single Number and yesterday we wrapped principal photography on our 3rd. Aiming to get the most recent into Sundance or similar.

Will post trailers/promos as I pump them out.
