Wear what you want and don't let anyone hate you on it.

Answering your question I personally like Nudies over APCs even though many people think APCs are worth more for the money. Both are good to start out with if you don't want to drop 300 bucks on denim. A good site to read about denim is superfuturetalk, but that's my opinion.

For an amazing(Phresh) fit you need; Ed Hardy Jacket, Famous Tee, Red Monkey Jeans and clear Bapes.

Any raw denim is better than true religions or sevens imo. With raw denim you get to start wearing them at the beginning of their life. Garbage sevens and tr's are worn and torn, not to mention the lame stitching and pocket design.

APC's are good for your first venture into raw denim.

Samurai, Skulls, Diors, etc. are for the more serious denim enthusiast.

To the original question:

The budget makes all the difference in the world.

If you don't have much to spend, then there isn't much of a choice, and people tend to veer to Levi's because of its cheap, yet tolerable (to some), qualities.

Then around $150 to high $200s, I think, you can find Seven jeans, True Religion, Rock and Republic, Citizens for Humanity, etc (the type you see at department stores like Bloomingdales or Nordstroms. In my opinion, those jeans suck. The stitching and back pocket designs are unbearable to me, especially the R's on the Rock and Republic jeans. Bleh. Seven jeans are comfortable, but that tells you that it's probably not going to last long.

I wouldn't mind a few Diesel jeans to wear to mess up, but even then I don't think they look good.

As a lot of people are saying, I'd rather go for the APCs.

And if you can easily spend $250+, there are a lot of options that you can find just by looking at the front page of the Denim forum. I have two pairs of Imperials (a pair of Shearers and a pair of Dukes) that I both love. Dior denim looks nice, even though I've never been able to try on a pair. I want a pair of Dior chinos.

To sum it up, I think it's best to invest more money on a pair of higher-quality, higher-end jeans.
