got another question. Just picked up some 514's, and noticed they aren't as tapered below the knee as i'm used to feeling in my 511's. Is there a way to taper my jeans from the knee down?

Take it to your tailor and have them taper your jeans, unless you can do it yourself. 514's are a slim straight fit so its expected to not be tapered. 511's are skinny so the taper has to be there to give the look.

Do 511s shrink when washed? If so how much? I usually wear 510s but i'm trying to go for a looser fit yet keep it skinny

From my experience they don't shrink much at all. My 32x34's have an inseam of almost exactly 34 after maybe 20 washings, and my 30x32's are actually a little longer than 32 inches in the inseam after being washed many times.

Does anyone know if 511 "Rigid" jeans are actually raw denim? I bought a pair a few days ago for the hell of it but idk if they're actually raw denim. They are stiff and smell strange if that helps. They have a black patch, black tag, and black stitching as well

They do shrink slightly (around legs and approx 1/2" in waist), but they quickly stretch out after~30 minutes of wear.
They won't shrink in length.

Depends on the model, but yes, "Rigid" is Levi's term for raw.
Quick test: Put a drop of water on the jeans, rub a piece of paper on it. Did the dye rub off? If so = raw => it will fade.

Hmm... well i tried that and no dye rubbed off. So they aren't raw I guess. That's disappointing

Oh yeah? Can you link the model/color? If it has the "Rigid" label, I'm very surprised.

I looked at their website and couldnt find the same ones, but I took some pictures of them:

That's with flash, and they look a lot more blue than they do in person.

Front, color is more accurate

Here's the back, I took the patch off

Black patch as well

Hey guys. I'm looking for some advice on my jeans.

I wear 501s(regular) 36x32 (which is weird because I see most of you with a smaller waist than length, and i'm pretty skinny. I'm in shape but i'm lean. 5'11 160. I remember trying on smaller sizes and they didn't fit well.) I could include pictures if that would help you guys give me advice.

anyways, I don't really like how the 501's look on me. They seem too baggy and not tapered well? I've never tried wearing skinny jeans. It just doesn't seem like my style and seems uncomfortable but after reading the last few pages, maybe I will try it. I don't want "skinny" jeans, more so I want "fitted" jeans. I don't mind sagging a little either. So ya, any suggestions on what I should try?

And any thoughts on the sizing considering my size? I will definitely go try them on but I want to get an idea.

wonder if that pair that Peter posted up is the same ones i saw at the store.

They were a really light blue almost baby blue and felt raw like like the STF. To me I would think they are since they don't seem to have been washed or rinsed like normal jeans. They had a nice weight to it unlike the Rigid Dragons that I got and never wore. Liked that they came in a a 28x32 also. thinkin of getting them even tho I don't really need em.

If 36 waist fits you, then thats your waist. No need to compare it to what others wear.
501s are straight fit, so of course they won't be tapered.
Fitted jeans can be achieved in many ways.
Either by sizing down (which you dont want to do) or by changing models.

If you want something tapered, check out 521 (slim tapered) or 520 (tapered).
They can be found Levis.com or in most department store (Kohls, Belk, Macy, JC Penny... etc).
They have a tapered effect from the thigh to the ankles.
Slouchy, lower rise for that semi-saggy look.
Roomier in the thigh area, but as it goes down, it slims down.

While youre at the store, look for 513 (slim) or 511 skinny.
If these are too skinny for your liking, try sizing up 1, and it may fit better for you.

Found Levi Matchstick Selvedge Denim in Sterling for $50 at my local Nordstrom rack the other day.
Came in a bluish/greyish color, Rigid tag on them. Selvedge.
Awesome for anyone wanting a pair of grey denim.
Fits similar to 511s, but a little looser.

Indeed, they are trying really hard to copy the LEVI's vintage 1947 back pocket off-stitching

You can pick up Samurai in USA (at like BIG), but if you want a pair with that pocket stitching, you'll have to order one directly from Japan.

Newbie here.. so I recently decided it was time for a change.. I'm getting rid of all of my 514s in 30x30.. I got a pair of 511s in 31x30 and they fit pretty well (after a wash to shrink), but I was hoping for a little more room around the calves since I have an athletic build.. should I bump up the waist, inseam, or both? 32x30, 31x32, or 32x32?

Edit: And I don't care much for stacks or cuffs.

Since it's a straight fit, inseam wouldn't make a difference.
Before you purchase anything new, wear the jeans 2-3 times. With my experience, they'll stretch a little, even at the calves.

If still no good, try a +1 waist.
If not, check out Levis 513 (Between 511 and 514).
