i dont understand why you would size down so much are you trying to get untapered 511's? lmao

theres a point where you need to realize the cut can't provide what you want and sizing down 20 isnt gonna change that
Aug 27, 2010 @ 12:26
^i wanted a roomier 511 that was rigid for $40. that is what i got =)
there is a point where you need to realize that the cut can, and did provide the fit i wanted... and sizing down 2-3 did exactly that.

i apologize if i am too optimistic and atypical for your taste. the way i do things doesn't have to be your way ;)

is there a special name for levis that dont display the waist or inseam numbers on the leather patch only the model number. I copped some levi from sufu and its a rigid 501 with red line selvedge, and it says 501 on the leather patch but is blank for both the waist and legnth.

Those look huge btw. Even after 2 soaks I doubt that they will fit the way you want. How did you size them?

I personally set the stacks how I wanted them and sat in the tub for an hour in warm-hot water. Make sure it's not too hot to avoid burning blinkyeyes .

Yeah, I decided to just give them to my brother, they ended up being too soft for me.

They're 29x36. I sized down one on the waist. Should I just give them two hot soaks?

I would try 1 hot soak for an hour and see how they fit. I've done 2 soaks before and found that the denim loses a lot of the stiffness after a 2nd soak. If it's a nice day out, wear them around when they're wet(not dripping). It'll help with the creasing and you can force the stacks the way you want them.

Pics of my recently soaked STF. Sized down 1, 31x34.

would these fade?

Yes, but not in the same way some actual raw jeans would, the contrasting would be different too. All jeans fade, I had some 510's that faded a little, but nothing compared to some of the jeans I've seen on here.
Sep 02, 2010 @ 14:46
does tapering jeans just make the leg shorter, or does it make it slimmer?

Makes it slimmer, hemming would make them shorter.

If I were to soak a pair of Levis 501 STF, without tapering, would I get a fit similar to the 514 or 511?

Actually, 510 rigids fade nicely for Levi's. Check out this pair that was worn for 4.5 months from a guy named Chemist:

^You can't see anything.

Depends how you size. If you downsize a couple you'd might get a pair that's similar to a 514, but I still think they'd run a little bit looser for a size that you can still wear without having the waist kill you.
Sep 03, 2010 @ 19:58
anyone have any raw 514's?
Sep 03, 2010 @ 21:57
Okay so I have been wearing my STFs for a lonnnnngggggg time and they stretched a lot is there any way to shrink them again without tapering???
