You would think this, but It's actually been done before.

He is the same height/weight as I am. I love the fit!
Figure why not throw up the 40 bones and give it a try haha

To each their own... but this pretty much sums it up.

Note: even though i stretched the waist after the soak, they were still very tight and painful for the first 2 weeks. How bad was the pain you ask? not very bad at all and i got used to it very fast. It was easy to just forget about it. After two weeks of everyday wear i had a comfortable fit.

When I think denim, "pain" and getting used to said pain is not what immediately pops into my head. Also... Every wash would shrink it again. So repeat pain for nice fit?

^ this is how i see it:

Pros - $40! (hopefully) GREAT fit. Comfortable (after 2 weeks/wash).

"After two weeks of everyday wear i had a comfortable fit."

"after 3 months of everyday wear, the fit is holding up nicely. the waist is now very comfortable."

Cons - 2 weeks of (bearable) pain @ start, and possibly @ wash.

also, remember that other (more expensive) brands w/ sizing down experience the "tight breaking in phase"

Pros heavily out-weigh Cons, IMO.

so i say: why not cool

Not sure what you mean about the "more expensive" denim having a sizing down experience and "tight breaking in". Only denim I can think of is APC... I can't name any other "expensive" denim where I would size down effectively "4 sizes" (maybe 1-2 at the very most) and have to stretch them out in a painful way then either repeat every wash or just don't wash them at all.

I agree the Pros are definitely worthwhile if you're on a budget or you just really really really want to force a straight leg denim into a slim fit, but I'd rather spend cash on the actually cut of denim I want instead of turning 501 STFs into something they're not.

Say, I found these old red lines in a vintage shop for cheap. The physical features make me figure they we made between 71-76. They are in excellent shape, but it would appear the rear patch has been removed. Must have happened early on, as it didn't leave a dark spot on the waistband like it would if it had fallen off later. Anyhow, great specimen. No holes, rips or nothin. And theyre 36x36, it says. Just wunnert what'd folks more familiar with this brand than me think they would be worth?

It is worse in a pair of jeans that are skin tight. That is why I don't get skin-tight low-rise jeans anymore.

What size did you get? you mind posting some measurements (waist, thigh, knee, leg opening)? Does it fit like 511's?

honestly all this talk with sizing down and being in pain. why not just tailor them like i have done? Stfs are pretty cheap and paying 20$ for them to be tailored is a pretty good investment. im on a year of wear in mine, they may not be as nice as the dudes on mynudies.com, but i still love them. i dont wear them much besides when im skating, theres a bit more fading as these pics are old. im 30 waist tts, i went with 30X34s and had them tapered to a 7" leg opening.

i got a 38x34.

waist was 39, leg opening is 8.0. they fit slightly looser than 511's. mine looked pretty silly the first few wears, but they gave a little and fit pretty good now.

Depends on wear... "excellent shape"... Maybe $50, give or take, on eBay. I'd say although I don't usually keep in eye out for that particular size. Tagged 36x36... Take a measurement and list it as the measured or both. For example...

Does anyone know where to find dark blue Levi 511's? (not the clean dark ones)
I would post a link to what it looks like but I can't post links until I get more posts.

If possible, can anyone post a direct link to buy it from?

501 are pretty straight fit, nah man I just borrowed that camera. It's all about your size of your body/legs, for me I got thick legs (no homo) so it might look slimmer.

Thanks for the help.

One more question, what is the leg opening on them? The site says 17 and a half and that just left me with "Wait what?" expression.

Unless your thighs are huge, I'd stick with true to size in waist instead of going up 2. STF don't shrink as much as they claim to. But def go up 3 in length. First initial soak the length shrinks a lot.

Otherwise you can try going about it in nostalgia's way. It looks like a great fit cool .

501s would be a good choice.
