I just got some 501xx STF and I was wondering what I would have to do to get them to shrink as small as possible.

A hot wash with a hot machine dry will do its best, but don't expect it to have that same stiffness/color as it was in the beginning

I hope you mean a hot soak before wearing, do NOT wash. After months, you'll start getting fades, honeycombs,etc.

I thought that STF's stretched in the waist area? or is that only if its tight?

I usually wear a size 34x30 regular 501s, what size should I get in STFs?

Also if I wanted to get my STFs tapered, would I do it before the soak or after?

All jeans stretch... just how much. If they're tighter they usually stretch more.
If you want a slim-ish fit stay TTS but you have to wear them while they're damp to stretch the waist. But for a normal fit size up 2 on waist and inseam so.. 36x32.
Taper after soaking.

samurais are just heavier

these 506 raw indigos are better than APC and uniqlo thats for sure

506's arent raw... your 506s cant compare with apc because theyre two different categories..

alright my 520s, they have a really nice color to them now cuz i washed them a lot back when i didnt care about what i wore, it still fits but its a bit baggy for my taste

the thigh area poofs out like fuck when i sag, and tapering will for sure be done for the shin/bottom part. what can i do for the above-the-knee area so its not so big?
