Anywhere from Japan should come out to be cheaper, but it's no more than $15 saved (if even that with exchange rates moving in the wrong direction) . I don't think it's really worth it the trouble anymore, unless you're getting a limited edition pair.

ordering from: (example lot 13 s710xx)

Japan: $310 (tax, 4 day shipping from japan included) - Move Clothing via Rakuten

>

US: $325 + $37.25 express shipping = $362.25 (from US) - Blue in Green Soho

it's obvious where the better choice to order from is...

Why do you have to widen the gap with express shipping? It'd be $336 shipped priority from BiG which is plenty fast. You'd also have access to free chainstitch hemming, which most shops can't/don't offer (including Move) and the security of being able to return/exchange them.

I've never ordered from BiG. But from what I've heard, tabs and/or arcs are not always guaranteed. Might be a concern for some. Also, can you return to BiG after you've already gotten a hem?

Yeah, you can.

And you can get arcs and tabs on the hush (considering they're not supposed to be carrying them in the first place) if you're lucky enough to have a pair in your size.

How would that work? I want to order a pair of 710's after Christmas and I wouldn't mind having arcs and tabs.

I don't see how you can makes them exactly comparable. Priority mail is the cheapest offering from BiG and the same can be said for shipping you'll get from Rakuten. Express shipping is a luxury, so it doesn't make sense to throw it in when comparing the lowest base price.

Yeah, I guess. But they don't always have your size. I dunno. I actually found ordering from Japan incredibly easy. In fact, the process was easier than almost all US online purchases I've made. And I got the jeans in literally four days.

im not widening the gap in any way

im simply making an exact comparable comparison

I've ordered from BiG maybe 5 times and Rakuten maybe 15 times, and I can tell you that it's not a direct comparable in terms of delivery times if you live in the US, because on average, it takes less time to receive your order from BiG with Priority Mail than it does from Rakuten with EMS (Priority domestic is typically a day or two faster than EMS overseas). Plus most Rakuten stores take 2-3 business days to get your order out, while BiG typically ships same day.

Of course BiG's base prices will be higher than buying direct from Japan. They have to pay overseas shipping to their suppliers, plus they have to pay customs fees for importing the jeans. But, they make it up to you in service. They hem for free, whereas most Rakuten stores charge $5-$10 for a chainstitch hem on jeans purchased directly from them, and they will hem a pair of jeans more than once for you for free if necessary. Also, BiG accepts exchanges on unhemmed jeans if the garment is defective, doesn't fit, or isn't as advertised. Rakuten stores typically don't accept exchanges at all from overseas orders, even if a garment is defective (I found this out the hard way with 2nd).

Also, with Rakuten, you're taking a chance that you will incur customs fees. Some Rakuten stores don't ship by EMS, and many are not willing to mark a lower value on customs forms for you, so you can end up paying an additional 16% in customs fees plus a $25-$50 surcharge to the carrier. That's something to consider if you are trying to save a buck.

I still order from Rakuten sometimes, but I actually prefer ordering from BiG, because to me, the lack of hassle with dealing with overseas orders is worth the slightly increased cost to me.

Yeah, I didn't mean that you shouldn't order overseas at all, because I do realize for some things it's cheaper and there's more overall selection. Heck, I've made 7 transactions on Rakuten and more than a dozen from Take 5. I think both offer great services and I'd refer them to anyone.

I just think that depending on what you order, it's always good to support your own US retailers if they offer the same product. If I'm gonna spend $300+ on a pair, I think extra $25 you'll spend domestically is worth the perks of better customer service, hemming, and the chance to return them.

Things like special edition items, brands that are dramatically cheaper overseas (Ie. Sugar Cane), I'll continue to buy overseas.

The free shipping only applies if your shipping address is in Japan. If you are overseas from them, expect to pay about $30 for shipping on a pair of jeans.

Those are dope. Thinking about getting 710's, but not sure how to size. I wear a 30 in APC NC's if that helps. Also I was looking at the measurements of 710's compared to NC's and there pretty similar, but then I see fit pics and 710's look bigger which is why I'm looking to get them. Can anybody help me out?

Indeed they are bigger, but since your looking for a NC styled but bigger cut, go size 28, assuming that your measured waist IS 28.

Measure it, and make sure you get the right measurement to make sure you get the correct fit. I say go 31.

Pats 710s are so fucking crazy. A little too much of a high contrast for me though. I'm hoping to get a little more of a vintage fade and end up somewhere in the middle

If I wear a 32 in Levi 501's and they're pretty loose on my waist, what waist size should I get in 710's?

Which cut, and probably maybe a 31, because according to my experience with Levis, they stretch like a bitch.
