I'm really glad they made that video, and I agree with what they say.
If they're so dirty/smelly to the point that one is considering putting them in a freezer with food, or to go into the ocean... then I think you're taking denim too far.

These guys completely neglect the fading aspect, high contrasting fades in particular. If yoy want high contrasting fades, not washing for as long as possible is the way to go
