well... the purpose was just to tighten the sense of community... make it more tangable.... tho it is 12 people who have spent much time bouncing ideas off of eachother in the past...
really, the whole thing came up when we were talking about some jeans that have been sold or traded to a handfull of people... a pair of vintage levis that at least 3 of us had had, and a pair of sugar canes 3 of us had had. we discussed getting some jeans and having some people wear them and then send them on... i emailed gordon at blue in green, gave him a proposal fr the project, and the rest is history.
the choice of evisu no1 was due to the fact that evisu got shitted on alot, but actually make soe of the best jeans in the world. evisu as a brand also wanted to bring their image back to quality over flashiness, and they agreed to do some special things for us... custom patch, custom pocket painting... even offered custom selvage color and choice of denim.
the end result? everyone gets to wear the jeans, and document them. evisu will get the jeans at the end and i think they want to make a book with the pictures and stories associated with them. also, just the opprotunity to be involved in something like this, and work with one of the biggest names in japanese denim, and the one who started it all, not as professionals, but as denim maniacs... its not for profit, or for product, but just for the love of it.
