Small DENIM Questions Thread

less than 100. i can't very well pay for it myself since i have no job/money. so i'll be using daddy's card lols

Cheap Monday's is your best bet.

I'm thinking about getting a pair of APC new standards to replace my levi 501 STFs. Is there any other pair of jeans in the same price range as the APCs that I should consider? If it's any help im 5'7, 125lbs and my true waist is 29 (I'd buy a 27 in the APCs right?). Do I take my true waist measurement from my actual waist or where I usually wear my jeans (abit below my waist)?

LVC?
In NS you'd be a 27 or 26 depending on the fit you want, and they would stretch.

on another note. what is the difference between just regular raw denim and selvedge?

apc are your best bet, but if you get lvc...its another (nicer) pair of levis. some variety would be nice imo.

NS: size down 1 for a regular fit - be wary, stretching is a bitch on these
NS: size down 2 for a slim fit
NS: size down 3 for a skinny fit
NS: 4...just get the new cures

NC: size down 1 for a skinny fit
NC: size down 2 for a super skinny fit
NC: 3...chop your nuts off

alright thanks man... one more question.
i'm like 5'5 what size inseam should i get to get nice stacks, not tooo heavy but just the right amount.

34" is good. its not overdoing it imo, all the APCs are around 34". stacking depends on the cut of the denim as well as the shoes you wear. just gotta test it out my friend. i would go for something that tapers and/or has a small leg opening with a length somewhere around 34"

What other denim have a similar fit to APC rescues?

thanks for the tip bro, because i'm thinking about purchasing some slim jims but i guess the guy hemmed it to 32" and was just wondering if that'll be a lil too short...

I just bought a pair of apc's NC about 2 monthes ago and i am a size 29. 5'6" 138lbs. i don't wear them below the waste and i bought 1 size down so a 28. they fit nicely and not too snug. there is enough room to wear them below the waste if i wanted to. i would suggest that if you by NS buy 2 sizes down NC buy 1 size down and if you wear them below the waste then they will eventually stretch to that size. good luck

Thanks for the help everyone, i'm tempted to go for APC NS in 27. Someone on another forum mentioned Naked and famous, any opinions on these?

okay, same questions over and over and over and over. Here's the rundown.

New Cures (NC):
Size down 1: Slim fit
Size down 2: Skinny fit
Size down 3: Might as well chop your balls off because there won't be any room for them.

New Standards (NS):
Size down 1: Baggy fit
Size down 2: Straight fit
Size down 3: Slim fit
Size down 4: Skinny fit (might as well get NCs)
Size down 5: Unheard of, but if you got the balls, or lack of balls, go for it.

Petite Standards (PS):
Size down 1: Straight fit
Size down 2: Slim fit
Size down 3: Skinny fit
Size down 4: You see the trend.

Basically, from straight to slim...

New Standards > Petite Standards > New Cures

hot or warm water?

thanks guys.
January 07, 2009 @ 00:22:13
I would go hot wash full cycle, then hang dry until it gets near dry

the quality of their denim is very nice for the price, and they have varied cuts as well, adding to their overall appeal. however, im parital to apc because i haven't seen any evo pics of naked and famous denim and since i own some apcs. its ultimately your decision on what to get but i would look at the evolution of jeans, apc, and naked and famous threads to see what fit you like better and what your jeans will transform into as you wear them. plus, ive done some reasearch and it seems like the smallest size they have, coinciding with the NS fit that you want, is a tagged 29 in unsanforized denim, the actual size is 31, these will NOT shrink to a snug fit at the waist.
January 07, 2009 @ 20:46:00
Thinking of getting some RRL raw denim. Does anyone should I size down or go with true size?

Gray denim
I have $200 or so dollars and I want to buy a good pair of gray jeans/pants (doesn't matter which one as long as they look good).

Any suggestions
January 09, 2009 @ 18:59:38
Manik, APC, Nom de Guerre all make some raw gray denim.
January 10, 2009 @ 10:01:55
Is there a way to perserve the colour of the denim? IMO I don't really like the fading untill its light blue.
January 10, 2009 @ 12:58:46
if you dont want extremely noticeable fades...buy denim that has been washed (non-raw denim)
January 10, 2009 @ 12:59:10
dont wash/soak.

I sized down two on the NC (true waist around 29.5) and got 28s. They come in monday and I just got surgery on my leg so I won't be able to wear them for a while. Should I leave them as is until I can wear them or should I should I soak them and then put them locked up?
January 10, 2009 @ 23:35:12
^Soaking isn't necessary.

It's your choice if you do or do not. It makes no difference, though.
January 11, 2009 @ 03:56:48
i have a couple pairs of levi's 501s. love the raw look but don't really like how the thighs are a little big. any other jeans out there that's similar in fit but not with the "big thighs"?

also, is it even possible to get them tailored in?

Soaking does make a difference, it reduces the amount of shrinkage.

Marc Jacobs jeans
Saw a pair at Barneys this weekend that looked pretty good and I'm thinking about getting them.
What do you think of them? And does anyone own a pair?

don't soak sanforized denim, size it right...or trade it in and get the right size, especially for apcs. trust me, leave em unsoaked, you will have that nice starchy sheen and it'll be nice and crisp for you to wear in. if you soak, it will shrink half an inch AT THE MOST and all the starch will go down the draiiiinnn. it ain't a pair of sammies or stfs, sanforized denim is starched for a reason.

lol wut? not with sanforized denim, i.e apcs.

hip flares? yeah they are annoying, it happens alot with 501xx, maybe sag less? i haven't heard of anyone tailoring hip flares so i guess the only other alternative is to soak, but you'll get rid of the "raw look" you like so much. just invest in another pair of 501s, they're just $30 at the most. or try cheap mondays, uniqlo, H&M, bullheads, or kr3w jeans.

minimal difference with APCs. please get your information straight.
January 11, 2009 @ 20:49:13
