Small DENIM Questions Thread

should i put my brass knuckles in my back pockets of my imps?
you guys think it would look cool? was worried there would be too much going on the back with the gold stitching
August 10, 2011 @ 18:43:29
Nothing wrong with sea wash; only thing might be is when you rub sand on them might cause the stitching to wear off, also the smell of your jeans might be a little bad.

I'd think seawashing gives your denim a different appeal; don't be afraid to experiment with your denim

so many possibilities. Seen people on sufu use tea, coffee, mud

It's cool, I guess... I remember the person that did it got his shit confiscated and he had to keep buying knew knuckles. Denim is supposed to revolve around your life style. Unless you kill ♥♥♥♥♥s with them shits it'll just be tacky.

What makes a pair of jeans quality? is it just construction and the denim used? or is there something eles to it?

edit: is raw usually better than washed?

Quality of jeans is based on the denim used, where it's sourced, certain mills, certain weaves, weight, as well as material as in different types of cotton. Construction also differentiates quality, so where they are made could have a difference in the build of your jeans. All the things that get put into your jeans make a difference, such as the rivets, stitching, pockets, leather patch.. basically everything that gets put into the jeans, if it's good quality makes your jeans better quality. But the most important part is the denim it self.
August 10, 2011 @ 23:38:14
^^ some might consider dye part of that quality. Good branded denim can handle washes and still have good contrast (Samurai, Sugarcane for example) so you don't have to wait for "6months" in worry they might become washed out if you washed them before that.

@"is raw usually better than washed?"

Pretty much. Of course fit counts for something, too, but there are plenty of low-quality jeans out there with decent cuts.

If you have the patience to fade the jeans yourself, and if your lifestyle is conducive to getting the type of fades that you want, then raw is better, because the fades will match up to your body.

If you don't have the time or patience for your jeans to fade through wear, or if you've been historically unhappy with the fades that you've gotten in the past, you're probably better off going with washed.

How quickly do raw jeans start to show slight signs of fading? I've been wearing mines almost 3-4 times a week for about two months now.

Depends what kind of denim it is, and how much you wear your jeans/what you do in them. If you're sitting around playing xbox your jeans are gonna fade a lot slower than a guy who skates every day in them. From average wear almost everyday id say fading will show in about 2 months, but it's really tough to say since everyone wears their jeans differently. Don't worry about it though man, keep wearing em and stuff will happen!

Some jeans fade a lot slower than others, so it does depend on what brand and model of jeans you are wearing too.

What are some 16oz or above slim raws?

Not to split hairs, but the Oni Shoai is not by any means a slim jean. It uses Oni's Blue fit, which is very much a regular jean fit similar to say, a Samurai S5000 or Studio D'Artisan SD-103.

There are many slim jeans that are 16 oz. or above in weight. In addition to the others that abcdenim mentioned, Iron Heart has a 301S tapered slim jean that is 21 oz., Pure Blue Japan has 24 oz. versions of their XX-005 slim cut, and Naked & Famous has the Elephant 2 Skinny guys that are 22 oz. in weight. Dry Bones has a 22 oz. slim cut collaboration with Self Edge, Strike Gold has a few slim models that are 17 oz. as well as one that is 23 oz., and I'm sure that there are others that I can't think of right now.

Been looking for denim that's loose fitting but tapered towards the hem. Any recommendations?

That's right, the Oni Red is the really loose one. Just thought I'd throw the Oni Blue in there as I believe it is their "slimmest" fitting jean (even though you can't really classify it as slim at all tongueface )

Acne carries mostly slimmer cut jeans. The closest might be the MIC Rigid jean which is a straight leg jean (looks pretty skinny in the product pic though tongueface )
http://shop.acnestudios.com/shop/men/jeans/mic-rigid-138.html

To see Acne's current denim collection, click this link: http://shop.acnestudios.com/shop/men/jeans.html?f=true&p=2

A lot of their other cuts are also straight but have a slimmer thigh. Hope you find what you're looking for! You can PM us if you've got any other questions man!

August 18, 2011 @ 11:05:50
Can someone recommend shoes to wear with PS? In the summer I've been wearing boat shoes since they look nice with the small leg opening. What should I wear with the PS during colder fall/winter months besides for winter boots.

Not too sure about the boots... pretty similar to the 8131 and the 8166 though! I've always been a little curious about The Flat Head or Iron Heart! I don't believe that Imperial has any 19oz-ish models (can someone confirm?) but Imperial jeans are sweet too!

Can't go wrong with a work boot.

Or even Desert Boots or chukkas!

Thanks in advance for helping but
what are some black denim that have good fading properties, in a fit similar to n&f skinny guys?
August 19, 2011 @ 23:49:45
So I'm planning to buy APCs Petit Standards, my question is this:

I heard they stretch around two sizes, and I usually wear 33-34, am I good buying 31, or should I stay with the 33? My size really depends on the jeans, how's it gonna look like if I stay TTS?
August 20, 2011 @ 01:06:15
I don't think you would want to size down that much on PS my dude. People usually size down 1 for PS and NC's since its a skinnier fit than NS.

Yeah, I'd size down 1-2 on the PS. People tend to really exaggerate stretching sometimes, i'd say they will stretch about an inch maybe 1.5 inches max. You'll definitely want to measure you're actual waist before you buy tho!

Actually, Oni's Black fit is slimmer than their Blue fit.
