Hey, I have a few noobish questions...

First, I've noticed from sitting down a lot that the denim above my kneecaps is stretching out, so when I'm standing straight, there's a slight bulge. Is there any way to get rid of this?

Second, IDK why but the bottom of my jeans have started to turn a but, so that the sewn line (dunno the term) is now facing more towards the front... it doesn't look bad but the problem is that it's more pronounced on the right. What causes this?

Third, what's the best way for achieving maximum shrinkage on only one part of the jeans? I want to shrink the waist a bit... would it work to just submerge the front half in hot water?

1. No.

2. Essentially, it's caused by the denim shrinking. It's referred to as leg twist. It's natural to have it happen more on one leg than the other, based on the weave of the material.

3. Yes. Use the hottest water possible.

For the bulge, how is it then that some people manage to avoid it for years and get good aged denim? I figure since the stretch comes from sitting... do they not sit or something? lol... I mean, denim's expensive, but I'd rather wear cheap crap than fucking baby my denim every minute of my life, pulling them up like a skirt when i sit and stuff... so how is this avoided?

It's caused by things like sitting as you said because it gets put under more stress so it stretches out first, As you keep wearing the jeans everything will stretch a bit and make them alot less noticable and more natural, Also when you soak or wash it should shrink down a bit. So yes if you want to avoid it completely, stand still.

It's caused by the stretching of the knee, which you'll notice when you sit down. As you wear the denim, it should shrink down and relax so that it's not so pronounced, but it'll never completely go away. If you feel that you need to baby them, then you either need a looser cut or to stop paying so much attention to them.

Can anybody give me a couple measurements? I'm going to taper my jeans to a 7.5 leg opening but am unsure what width to get from the knee-down. That's the biggest concern of mine. What would a good width to have from the knee down to the leg opening be? 7 3/4 then taper to the 7.5? Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

on a 34" inseam i like an 8" knee --> 7.5" hem

So your saying the knee is 8" then it tapers to 7.5 from the knee down?

actually i just looked at my NS and it doesnt start tapering till a few inches from the hem (inseam will prob matter too)

i think on something like a skull 5010 6x6 the taper starts a little higher...for a slightly slimmer fit than the NS

what about black apc's?

u can fade almost anything with enough wear...
but NS indigos def fade a lot faster than NS blacks..and indigos stretch a lot more than blacks too

blacks arent selvage either

u can find a couple of faded black ns pics over @ SUFU

The best way I've found is to flip through the Yellow Pages or sometimes even Yelp and find tailors that are only tailors. Commercial chains, dry cleaners are a pass. I've found different ones in my area that do really great work for different articles that need attention.

As for the selvage, just go in and ask for them to work with the inseam instead of the outseam. They'll get it done, considering it's a pretty small request.

i told the tailor not to touch my jeans with water, not to press them, not to dry clean them...

if u hem a pair of jeans that already have a taper...know that the leg opening is going to be wider than it was

Stupid question but is it possible to untaper? I got a pair of jeans tapered, and want them back to their original opening/size. Pretty sure there was no material taken off, based on the way the selvedge lines up now.

Been out of the denim game for a while, but whats the skinniest selvedge raws out? Ive been wearing my SEXI04s but they have stretched out a lot. Looks like PBJ XX011s?
