a hot soak first wouldn't hurt, but if u really want max shrink ur gonna need to use the dryer.

What would happen if i did nothing besides wear them for a good 6 months or more, then gave it a wash?

Washings fine also. People usually just soak to shrink back to the original fit, or to clean the jeans up a bit without losing as much indigo.

It's up to you how long you want to soak them for. An hour or two should do it though.

I have Club Monaco Straight Fit Denim, I'm not sure if they are selvage or not, I'm pretty sure they aren't though. I would like to shrink them a bit and achieve a nice fade. How would I go about doing this? Thank you in advance.


Wash your jeans if you want them to shrink a bit, but if they're not raw then they won't shrink that much; if at all.

To get a nice fade, just wear your jeans!

To get fades, you start out by wearing them. You can soak them to lose color.

hmm... i dont see any fade lines in my denim yet... Oh yeah i have some gap selvaga japanese denim they sold last year for $198. I soaked my jeans 2 times in cold water and i see no crease line forming bu i do see it fade a tiny bit. SO the question is what am i doing wrong to not get the crease line showing? Wear it after i soak it and walk around a bit in them when they are wet/damp? Oh yeah after they dry they get HELLA Crispy lol.

^Truth. Try wearing outside to bike or skateboard in them. It's almost summer, great for doing activities that enhace your fading. Unless you are afraid of the sweat ruining your denim

So if you want them to shrink, you wash them, but if you wash them, they lose stiffness and the ability to stack/honeycomb, right? What if the waist is just a bit large, how to shrink just that (fuck belts).

Hot soaking also shrinks the denim with not as much loss of color through washing. You can still get stacking/honeycomb through starch and those creases will fade the next time you give them a wash.

514s arent raw denim. They won't fade like RAW DENIM.

yo, i got some cheap monday regular fit raw unwashed denims, i want to shrink them down a little and try to get some nice honeycombs on them and nice fading, i was wondering how i would go about doing so.....

If you want them to shrink, just soak them in some hot water for 30minutes or longer but youll lose some stiffness, if you want nice honeycombs and fading just wear them, but i dont think cm fade very well
