Denim Care Thread (for denim FAQ)

March 11, 2008 @ 20:29:34
Alright guys. I bought a pair of apc new standards (sized down 2) and been wearing them everyday for the past couple weeks. The thing is I still want it to be a bit slimmer. Honeycombs have started setting in already but I was thinking about hot soaking them to make them a bit slimmer. Now I heard that releasing the indigo will affect the fading process but I also heard that if jeans are tighter, it will be easier for honeycombs to form.

My question is: Should I just soak them now and then wear the shit out of them OR wear the shit out of them and THEN give them a soak?

Thanks to all replies.

Soaking won't due much since its sanforized, your jeans will probably just get softer and a wee tighter just barely. So just wear the shit out of them, then wash, soak if dirty

Damn...so there's absolutely no chance of a tighter fit smh

Might have to sell them then...

If anyone's interested in a 30x34 pair of New Standards PM me..smh

a hot soak first wouldn't hurt, but if u really want max shrink ur gonna need to use the dryer.

So is the showering/soak neccasary?
What would happen if i did nothing besides wear them for a good 6 months or more, then gave it a wash?

Washings fine also. People usually just soak to shrink back to the original fit, or to clean the jeans up a bit without losing as much indigo.

If I cold soak my jean, how long should it be done for?

It's up to you how long you want to soak them for. An hour or two should do it though.

I have Club Monaco Straight Fit Denim, I'm not sure if they are selvage or not, I'm pretty sure they aren't though. I would like to shrink them a bit and achieve a nice fade. How would I go about doing this? Thank you in advance.

Wash your jeans if you want them to shrink a bit, but if they're not raw then they won't shrink that much; if at all.

To get a nice fade, just wear your jeans!

i just picked up nudie thin finns for 90 bucks. Should i soak them, i DO NOT want them to shrink, just a nice fade.
March 19, 2008 @ 23:04:31
No soak needed on nudies

To get fades, you start out by wearing them. You can soak them to lose color.
March 19, 2008 @ 23:31:24
ok, and they will stretch out a bit, correct?
March 20, 2008 @ 06:56:51
Correct.

hmm... i dont see any fade lines in my denim yet... Oh yeah i have some gap selvaga japanese denim they sold last year for $198. I soaked my jeans 2 times in cold water and i see no crease line forming bu i do see it fade a tiny bit. SO the question is what am i doing wrong to not get the crease line showing? Wear it after i soak it and walk around a bit in them when they are wet/damp? Oh yeah after they dry they get HELLA Crispy lol.

^Truth. Try wearing outside to bike or skateboard in them. It's almost summer, great for doing activities that enhace your fading. Unless you are afraid of the sweat ruining your denim

and if this is the case, kill yourself.
March 20, 2008 @ 15:19:25
oh i had the jean for about 8 months now... soaked twice.
March 20, 2008 @ 22:31:34
So if you want them to shrink, you wash them, but if you wash them, they lose stiffness and the ability to stack/honeycomb, right? What if the waist is just a bit large, how to shrink just that (fuck belts).
March 20, 2008 @ 23:38:53
Hot soaking also shrinks the denim with not as much loss of color through washing. You can still get stacking/honeycomb through starch and those creases will fade the next time you give them a wash.

lmao, thats what i had in my head. fill tub up, lay pants over the edge, just waist submerged. ya diiiig? fuck it, ill handle it.

I'm hella brolic doo! Fall back.

Question to get back on topic.

Willl these $35 514's get as good honeycombs/stacks/wallet marks etc. as $200 Nudies? Or is it, the more expensive the denim, the better looking the jeans could look? (not the cut/style, the wear i mean)
