hot water = more shrinkage
colder water = shrinkage

time should be at least 30minutes for any effect

I just got some denim that is too long and needs to get hemmed. What are others doing if the denim is too long, but you are not trying to wash it for ... well as long as possible. I do not want to get the jeans hemmed now, as they may shrink once I do wash them for the first time. Does it really matter that much that I hold off on washing them? Or should I just got ahead, wash and hem, then just wear them for a while before the second wash?

Thanks for the help.

Soak, hem. Soaking gets the majority of shrinkage out. Anticipate another half inch of shrinkage in the inseam in the future and hem according so. Don't waste an unnecessary wash.

Most likely not, just read the tag for intructions. If you want to be more cautious, go with dry cleaning.

Can I turn a raw denim waist 30 to a fit 32? I always wear 32's with a belt, so even maybe a 31 can do. I assume just soaking in cold water will do, but I want to make sure.

i just bought a pair of raw denim..

thing is, whyen i bought it i didnt size up...

so im worried when i wash/soak it it will shrink...
i dont want it to shrink as it fits me well already

but if i soak it in cold water, for a couple of hours, and then line dry them.

would they shrink again after the 2nd wash?

Why would you size up though? Most of the time people size down on raws because they stretch. Are you afraid that they will shrink too much? If anything they will stretch out and the soaking would shrink them down a bit and prob make them fit like when you first got them.
