I soaked mine inside out, only because that's what I was told to do (and the Nudie wash instruction video on their site also instructs this). I figured that it would help with indigo loss, as well, but then I thought if they are inside out and some color is left in the water, when you drain the tub wouldn't one side of the jeans (front or back) be darker than the other? I just figured with the pants the way they are, the color in the water would settle to the bottom, but I don't know. I hung them up about 30 mins after the water drained from the tub and as the water was dripping out the leg openings, I was wondering if the bottom part of the pants would be a lot darker than the top, but they look pretty consistent throughout.

If i soak them then do i get that light and worn look after 6 months of not washing?

Soaking your jeans before wearing them is better than wearing them raw (prevents your honeycombs and whiskers from shifting, and gives you a better fit).

Waiting a long time until you wash= high contrast fades
Washing more frequently= more overall fading

Btw you don't have to wait 6 months until you wash, it's possible to get great fades even if you wash every month or w/e. Hope this helps!

had my STF since august but started to seriously wear them on janurary. these were my practice jeans before i get other jeans. i just want a similar fit to 511-514, i usually wear 29 x 30 but i bought 30 x 32 and havent soaked yet. what kinda things should i do get my STF to fit like 511 but still retain majority of its indigo?

im thinking 3 hour warm soak, no agitation, then hang over night, then they should still be damp in the morning and just wear them till they dry out. sound like a good plan? also does vinegar really help keep indigo, how much do i need to put.

a 3 hour vinegar soak will make them fit like a glove.

so after i soak and it shrinks, wear for a long time, then whats the cleaning process? can I just throw em in the washing machine?

and i dont know if i missed it in a different thread. but is there anyway to just shrink these lenghtwise? im okay with them being loose on the top but the bottom needs to get shorter.

can i just soak the legs and not the waist?

well just started rockin them on tuesday when they finally dried and i think they turned out fine, barely any indigo loss so im happy the way they turned out. might try a ocean recipe since summer is almost here

thx for the tips adrian one more question the longer you go without washing the better the whiskers and fades? Even if you want them lighter than normal.

Sorry to bring up an old thread, but I grabbed a pair of 501 stf's the other day, and I just wanted to check in on a few things. I did a cold soak for about an hour last night. Wore them soaked playing basketball for about and hour and then hung them up to dry all night. This morning I put them on (nice and stiff) and wore them all day. After today this is what they look like:

So there still a bit looser than I want in the leg (as well as being a tad longer than I wanted, I had to stack today). Should I soak more (just the legs? ). Anywho, I'm just looking to get some nice (by 501 standards) high contrast honeycombs and a nice fit. When and how should I wash? More often I wear them, the more they'll crease in the right places, correct? Thanks (Sorry for the shitty pics)

i believe the ocean wash works like this: wear in the ocean, dry in the sand. rinse in fresh water...i read that off sufu..

Hello,
I just purchased a pair of rigid selvedge Levi’s 501 STF, and honestly I currently have no intention of washing them. I bought them in a size that will fit me right and I want them dark and to stay the same size. If my jeans happen to get to the point where they are starting to get funky I intend on getting them dry cleaned and avoid any possible shrinkage or color loss. Is this a logical plan, or do you have any advice to give on this?
