when I had my denim tapered, it was the same price as a hem (which was 9$), but they took out the selvedge line.

I'd be pissed about that. And if it cost the same I don't know if I would have had them do it.

place where I got mine hemmed ( $11) they said it would be about $25. I heard people saying denim doc is a good place to send your jeans to. I'd look into them

depends on where you go, but local lady in my area hemmed and tapered a homie's pair of uniqlos for $20 and still kept the selvedge. if you don't want your selvedge line taken out, let your tailor know. it's all bout that dialogue and having your tailor know exactly what you want. unless they selfedge or a place that really knows denim, they gonna remove that selvedge line cuz that's the easiest/normal place for tailors to take out fabric to slim up your pants.
