I used to live around there. No self-respecting clothing store designated for a downtown audience would be caught setting up shop there. It's suburban hell.

wherever they open it will be a downgrade in their space. It is pretty hard to believe they can come up with a better looking store then what they had

Probably not. Rent in Gastown is astronomical as of late.. why do you think Games Factory and all those small shops are closing down? Heck, I rent out my 900sq.ft loft for $2,200/month. Gastown is the shit though..

i'm sure the old kidd location was expensive as fuck.. but "astronomical" is still an exaggeration (in terms of housing at least).
there's still low income housing left amidst those million dollar condos

Maybe there's some cheap places further east into 'Cracktown', but in Gastown, definitely not. We were looking for a second property recently and the cheapest loft we could find was $300,000 for a 500sq.ft "fixer-upper". My place is currently valued at $460,000, and I paid $205k for it 5 years ago. Not a bad investment. Go ask Gerry how much rent he pays for the LS space..

i live in gastown btw..

you don't think the building above subway on water st is low income?
or the one directly south of the old thai palace on abbott st?
or e cordova between abbott st & carrall st?
etc.
etc.

....i never said any of them were for sale. that kind of defeats the purpose of low income rentals
