its definitely interesting to see what happens from now on. Porche fires first with the 991, but im sure the R36 and the next ZR1 will be just as much of a leap forward in terms of performance.

and i actually test drove the v12 vantage recently. nothing quite like sitting on those 12 cylinders wrapped in that sexy ass sheet metal. its a completely different beast than a gt3

Why compare a lower end car to a higher end car? V12 Vantage and base 911's are in totally different leagues.

That rumor about the 991TT being 10 seconds faster than the current GTR at the ring sounds ridiculous to be honest.

just a base gt3 too not a gt3 rs or a gt3 rs 4.0

can't wait to see how far ahead the new gt3 is going to be with the competition. completely new engine and gearbox from scratch should usher in a whole new era of performance.

If they drop a PDK tranny in the new GT3's, I have no doubt that it will dominate.
Then again those are built to be drivers cars.

I remember seeing PDK 997C2S' eating 6 speed 997C2S' on the straights.
Would be great if a 3.9L or 4.0L: become a standard on GT3's well.

Porsche has said that the PDK is too heavy for a GT3 application as it is. I would expect a brand new 6 speed manual or a sequential. Can't wait to see how the 100 lb lighter and 20% stiffer aluminum and magnesium chassis and wider track is going to affect the new gt3's handling.

i was under the impression the 991 would get 7 speed manuals and pdk options. And i realize the aston is inferior perfomance wise, but there is just something about it that i would put over any modern Porche that doesnt have GT2, C-GT, or 918 in the name.

yes that is true of the carrera and turbo models but it is very unlikely the gt models will get a pdk or a 7 speed manual.

The front spoiler when you option for sport suspension (lower car means it should have different angles for front and rear spoilers) looks good

I really like the car in Ruby Red, Dark Blue, and Platinum SIlver so far.

still haven't seen a gt silver one yet though, all of the cars shown so far have been platinum silver I believe.

but yeah ruby red is awesome.

Now it is time to discuss the version we care most about, the GT3.

What do you think it will have and what do you want it to have?

Confirmed:

Higher revving development of 9A1 engine (the Mezger block used by prior GT3s and Porsche race cars has been retired for good)
Engine moved even further forward (practically mid-engined)
3.8L engine on the base model GT3

Rumors:
Lightweight optional PDK-S
450-550hp
Optional sequential shifter
Road going version of the electric motors and KERS system from the 997 GT3 R Hybrid Racelab
4.0L engine on the model GT3RS



I don't want any transmission that isn't a 6-speed manual. I am a huge fan of PDK and PDK-S sounds awesome but I think a 6-speed is the only transmission that belongs on a GT3

i'm guessing 450hp, 470 tops. KERS system MIGHT make it into the GT3RS, but even then i doubt it.

and pdk option? porsche knows who's buying the GT3. it's people that could give a damn about 0-60 times, horsepower figures, and everyday comfort. they care about handling, the responsiveness of a naturally aspirated engine, and the ability to row their own gears, even at the sacrifice of practicality.

that all being said, i'm really excited about the car, i just hope it won't be too compromised, the 997.2 was complete perfection.

EDIT: not too sure how i feel about the duck tail either, but it's probably something that should be seen in person to be appreciated. the sport design front bumper looks great in my opinion though, it's very subtle yet aggressive.

I assume the 991 will receive the usual GT3 treatment, only with the new engine, which I'm guessing will produce about 465hp in the base level gt3. Damn shame to see the old GT1 derived engine go, especially after the 500hp 4.0L finale.

My biggest complaint with the 991 is the badging scheme on the rear, honestly who the fuck came up with that? It's horrendous

I still think the PDK-S option is a big possibility considering it would move a lot of units to the rich people who just want the hip new thing with paddle shifters. I really hope it doesn't happen though. the GT3 is a car for enthusiasts. The fact that it will now basically be mid engined should make this new car very interesting. I'm hoping for 475hp in the base model and 500hp in the RS.



Yeah I don't think I could ever get over the sport-design bumper. good thing it is an option





natural espresso looks pretty average under the bright lights hopefully it looks nicer out in the real world

alright getting a full frontal of the sportdesign has led me to retract my previous statement

natural expresso reminds me of all the 80s porsches on craigslist selling for dirt cheap. disgusting.

i agree on the yuppie thing, but my argument is won't they be going for the turbo? it's only a few grand more and has a ton more horsepower plus the famous badge

If I'm not mistaken the GT3 will be out a few months before the turbo so yuppies/rappers/whatever might hop on it before the turbo (and complain to porsche for not offering a cabrio)

Natural Espresso should be amazing in person unless they reformulated the dye. It should be the same hue as the 911 Sport Classic interior. Those bright lights at the show are not doing it justice.

Porsche test drivers are saying that the Carrera S is as engaging and fun to drive as the 997.2 GT3. And it is just as fast. The GT and Turbo models are going to be insane.

The only things from the 997 are the Carrera S engine (the base carrera engine is new), PDK (the manual is new), the steering wheels and the touch screen head unit. It is the biggest overhaul since the jump for 993 to 996. What's new with the engine bay is that with the new chassis the engine is moved forward and lower in the car for way better balance. It is so low that there is no engine bay anymore what is under the rear decklid is just places to check and refill fluids. The article on the first page talks about all the brand new shit. This car is a whole different beast than the 997.
