To all the haters,

7:19.63

Sincerely,
Team Corvette

An absolutely stunning lap, Mero has balls made of titanium or some shit. Amazing what a set of Michelin Pilot Sport Cups can do, with a PTM tweak and slightly lighter wheels.

^ The Viper ACR and GT2RS laps were on the Sport Cups as well (they were not added to the ZR1 until the 2012 MY), I'd be interested to see how they would affect a 4WD car such as the GTR though.

i dont think there are zero's that fit the GTR. but we'll see what Nissan does with the Spec V. im loving the rivalry between porche-nissan-chevrolet on the ring

and i'm pretty sure the 599 GTO did the ring in under seven minutes, but nobody ever talks about that.

Yeah the rivalry between the 3 really is great to watch, it's a shame that most of the other major marques don't seem to be too interested in participating.

Also you're referring to the 599XX developmental racecar, which ran a 6:58.16, not the 599GTO street car. Pagani ran its Zonda R track car at the 'ring as well and managed a 6:47.5. The all time lap record of 6:11.13 was set in 1983 in a Porsche 956 with driver Stefan Bellof at the wheel (on a slightly longer version of the circuit mind you), a man whose driving style would make even Jim Mero seem relatively sane in comparison. He was killed about 2 years later in a racing accident while driving a 956.

Could you imagine a lap being a run a full minute faster than even the Apollo Speed's time? Sadly I don't believe there is any video of that insane run taking place.

That man has deadly skills, his tires were on the edge of the track after each corner, great car control and driving line definitely.
Sports car standards just keep going up and up. Porsche, Nissan, and Chevy going at it with record times at Nurburgring. I love it lol

either way its amazing what the GTR can accomplish with the sheer weight of that tank of a coupe, it's mind boggling.

Pretty cool when your test driver is also the car's chassis engineer and a former racecar driver. I wonder if the Corvette Racing drivers could push any harder? I mean they are spectacular drivers, but in all honesty I don't see much room for improvement in that lap. Mero was nothing short of phenomenal, but I guess that happens when you've reportedly run 1200 laps at the 'ring blinkyeyes

That's insane and something I would love to brag about. lol

What really amazes me is how calm he is. His throttle control is so smooth when he exits the corner.
Most people would be tail happy after each apex with the ZR1.

Yeah he is very smooth with his driving line and control. It's funny because people assume that more "eventful" are faster, but it's the "boring" laps that are typically faster. The ZR1's PTM system is top notch and while though the press has seemingly ignored it in comparison to ferrari's traction control system.

Nah this is the LS9 that has been in the ZR1 since it came back into production, basically a supercharged LS3. There is supposed to be a smaller V8 in the C7 but I can't say there is much info about it, other than that it may be related to the 5.5L V8 powering the current C6R GT2 cars.

Jeremy is full of shit when it comes to Corvettes. Always talking crap about them but as soon as he gets behind the wheel he loves them.

Jeremy Clarkson arguments are always so pretentious. I never care for what he actually thinks of cars.
Still love Top Gear though

top gear is just for entertainment only. all 3 hosts suck at driving so i don't care about their opinion.
