while i have only driven both briefly (test drives), i the answer to the question is in your own post. since you're not specifically looking for performance, both these cars should be more than capable since they are similar enough, although this only applies when comparing the quattro version. look-wise, i really like the audi better. you said you wanted a good sound system and comfortability. Both cars are pretty close in terms of roominess and interior quality, but the 4 cylinder turbo in the audi is very loud, and not in a good way. The inline 6 of the bmw is smoother and sounds a lot nicer.

So, if you want a quieter ride, id go for the BMW, but personally I like the looks of the A4 a lot better than the BMW sedan. Btw, i am assuming these will be new cars, so 2010 or 2011 models?

edit: just realized in your post that the audi is not the quattro, so performance edge goes to the 328i

the 96-05 had a 1.8t, which is crap compared to the new 2.0t. i would personally get the audi if you just care about looks.

^ well i also care about realibility and i heard that audi tends to break down more than bmw and i dont want to pay more $ for repairs.

im still in the middle between the 2, both cars would be under 40k tho.

and yes they are both 2010 models, but i can also get the 2011 bmw around the same price as the 2010.

older audis do, the new ones are pretty much bulletproof. i had a 2.0t in my 2007 gti, had zero issues. i recommend joining audizine and bimmerforums to find more info on each car as well as test driving each one.

If your going by performance get the BMW.

If your going by looks and care about being noticed get the Audi.

The new Audi's shit all over the e90/92 in the looks dept and I hate Audi.

^^ spot on. i just tested it out today, bmw felt better to drive for somea reason, but the interior/exteior felt small compared to the audi. the audi is not as bad and but is slightly louder than the bmw.

so i still dont know yet..

the a4's are also in my opinion a lot more interesting cars, BMW 328i's are the car that you see soccer moms driving on every street.

also, the 2.0t engine in the a4 is very tunable. with just 500$ you can chip it (check out goapr.com) and get around +50hp and +70lbs/ft of torque, which is surprising bang for your buck.

personally OP, i think you should go A5 coupe. they're probably looking to get rid of the 2010s right now, you could prolly pick one up under 40k, if not then maybe CPO'd

I was actually looking into an S5 but I cant do it....I love RWD too much.

Honestly they're both great cars. If you get the M package on the coupe I think it's about on par with the Audi in terms of looks. I just test drove a 328i coupe with the M package and it was pretty nice. I didn't even bother to test drive Audi's new cars so I don't now how the enw ones feel. I did enjoy the 328i, and the back seats aren't too big. I liked the new 535i with the sports package a lot though &). I almost got that instead of the M3. You could always cop an e46 M3 if you can afford it maintenance wise, I can already tell mines going to cost quite a bit. I've been having a blast with mine though.

Have you driven any RWD cars that have a decent amount of power? They are not much fun to deal with in rain or snow, although the 328i is hardly what I'd call powerful.

The A4 is just as sporty as the 328i and far better looking both inside and out. The E9X 3 Series may honestly go down as the worst 3 Series in recent memory, you can extend that to BMW as a whole right now. Audi has really revitalized its brand, the excitement from the R8 has seemed to trickle down into their entire model lineup. BMW has become the proverbial champ that has taken its dominance for granted, its entire model lineup has become fat and ugly, even the legendary M3. The blindly BMW loyal automotive media has taken notice as well, Audi has won several of the recent head to head comparisons I've read. (even beating the brand new 5 Series, with their now ancient A6)

Those 4 bangers are pretty easy to tune you could get some good power out of them. If it were up to me I'd go with the BMW, although I'm a bimmer fanboy. The fact that the A4 is not RWD is a killer for me, I couldn't drive a FWD car, possibly if I went with the AWD. The new A4's look pretty damn good, I'll give it that much. I prefer the interior on BMW though. BMW with the new m-sport package they're offering looks awesome. I've driven an A4 before (not the newest generation, just b5-b7) and they were not fun at all. I had a much better driving experience in the e90/e92. The 328 moves along too.

I had this same decision about 6 months ago and I went with the 328i coupe. It's a great ride and no complaints at all. The A4 just felt weird for me when I took it for a spin. Unless you're willing to go up to an A5 or *gasp*S4*gasp* I'd go with the bmw.

not exactly, from what i hear it's much more enjoyable to drive. but you're right, it's slightly cheaper and made to compete with the 335i

test drove both of them again, im leaning towards the a4 now. while the bmw does feel better driving, the audi has better looks and it feels more comfortable being inside it.

honestly, i would get the a4 over the 328i sedan because i think the audi looks more masculine and better suited for dudes.

did you test drive the FWD or quattro? also, if you dont intend to carpool a lot or give people rides and shit, try the a5 or the bmw coupe like some people mentioned, but if its between those two, id definitely go for the bimmer.
