E39 versus E46 | Hypebeast Forums

Im in the market for a 2001 - 2002 BMW. Which of the two models do you guys suggest. looking to spend $8000 - $11000. I am well aware of the tedious maintenance required to upkeep a BMW from these generations.

What other cars do you guys suggest the are in the same, "Entry level / near luxury" vehicle market?

i know sneaky gonna come in here flaming but out of all the cars i ride around in i prefer my e39, only 540 though the 2.8 is junk, e46 is nice, i will probably buy one at some point, but if you dont live in a huge city where you gotta parallel park all the time, go e39 540, if you want to really do it right, save a little more, buy a prefacelift e46 and throw a super charger in it, only 5k for sc !

This is good advice. The 540i has a pretty good amount of power, also the e39's are awesome cars. I've driven way more e46's but I think the 540i is probably best besides the M's.

definitely the 540i 6mt. only e46 i'd cop (aside from m3) is the cars with the zhp package.
