What do you guys think of volkswagen golfs?

i want to get an older version like years 1994-1997, the ones with the boxy look.
i was thinking of blacking it all out, headlights/tailights/black rims,tint, then adding a nice sound system (shit loads of bass) and sideskirts, HIDs, possibly exhaust (no rice), etc...

i was thinking of something kind of like this:

i like golfs but those 2 you posted look gay as hell to me, imo. i like the 80s and the 99+ not so much the ones in between. my friend is trying to buy one right now with the 1.8t engine but he doesn't want to learn how to drive stick so it seems like a waste

The Mk3's(which are the years you posted) are nothing but problems. If you want old school, go for Mk2's instead. Or just grab an Mk4.

You're not kidding. I had the Jetta VR6 with factory BBS wheels. Beautiful car and strong motor, but nothing but headaches...

I got my mk4 for 6000 with 46k miles on it. The rpevious owner was a girl and it had a CEL, and had a stutter as she called it. I brought my laptop with vagcom, all it need was new coilpacks and a new o2 sensor. Now the car runs good as new and the kbb is like 9k

its pretty much stock for now, with school and everything. All black sitting on some montreals. I have a set of coilovers but they have to wait for the spring now
